The world lost a quiet gentleman last week when John Paul Galvin of Asdee passed away having suffered from ill health for many years. John Paul was father to Fiona Prendeville of Glenbawn. In a bitter sweet time for his family – wife Martina and children Fiona and Ronan, John Paul, a dialysis patient passed away on March 12, one day before World Kidney Day last Thursday. He was well respected in his local community in Asdee having been a member of the Church choir for many years. He was also the founder of the local soccer club and a founding member of Scór. He loved his guitar and was always at hand to play for any occasion if requested. Sincere sympathy to Martina, Fiona and Ronan, his son-in-law James and his five grand-daughters Amy, Clodagh, Eva, Saibh and Áine. I’m sure he is now making music in Heaven with all those gone before him.

All the St Patrick’s Day marches were very colourful all over the country. I watched them from the comfort of my armchair! Isn’t it amazing how many people and countries celebrate this day. A tiny little island like ours has made such an impact all over the world. Makes one proud to be Irish until I see Conor McGregor cosying up to President Trump and despair floods in again! Why do the media show this as it only inflates their egos even more. Two men who have no respect for the women of this world but because they have lots of money can get away with murder. It makes me very mad.

Let’s hope that the upcoming Vintage day in Knockdown on March 30th will lift the spirits. The monies will go to the two charities Cystic Fibrosis and The Little Blue Heroes Foundation. No doubt it will be a very successful day thanks to the energetic committee members who put in an awful lot of work behind the scenes.

Ballyhahill Rambling House takes place this Wednesday at 8pm in the Parish Hall. Always a great night of entertainment. Be there.
