MANY CONGRATULATIONS

Firstly, many congratulations to the entire cast of the Athea Drama Group and indeed all those who work behind the scenes to make each production even better than the last. By all accounts, Sharon’s Grave has received standing ovations over the past three nights, and it continues this week. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you do, as they take to the stage again this Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Well done to them all!

We send our congratulations to all the boys and girls from Athea N.S. as they receive their Confirmation from Bishop Brendan Leahy, who is visiting Athea today, Tuesday, to confirm them, as well as making a stop in Abbeyfeale beforehand. Hopefully, they will all have a lovely day—the weather seems nice and dry.

Congratulations to Adelle O’Sullivan, daughter of Sandra and Noel, who celebrated her 18th birthday at Brown Joe’s last Saturday night, surrounded by family and friends. Everyone enjoyed the night.

Well done to all those working hard to get the Athea Road Races up and running again after being absent for a number of years. Wouldn’t it be a great boost for our little village and really put it on the map if they return! An open meeting will take place on Thursday, March 13th, in the hall at 8 p.m. All are welcome.

Today is Pancake Tuesday! Everyone will be making their favourite pancakes. Long ago, it was a way to use up the eggs and flour in one’s cupboard before Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent—a time of fasting in preparation for Easter.

I came across these lines recently, which ring so very true: “Material things that are lost can be found or replaced. But one thing that can never be found once lost is life. Whatever stage of life you’re in right now, with time, we will all face the day when the curtain falls. So treasure love for your family, love for your spouse, and love for your friends. Treat yourself well, but cherish others.”
