HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!
Well, it’s that time of year again! Can you believe it? We’ve almost reached March 17th—the all-important day on the Irish calendar and indeed on many calendars throughout the world. Everyone on this special day claims to have a bit of Irish blood in them. So, we wish everyone a very Happy St. Patrick’s weekend. No doubt, there will be parades in abundance all over the country, with green everywhere, and everyone claiming a connection to Ireland. Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend, everyone!
This Sunday sees the very special remembrance Mass for the late Canon Kelly, taking place here in the Church at 11 AM. Everyone is very welcome to come along, and his family members will be present as well. For those who knew Canon Kelly over the years and are away from Athea, you might like to watch it on the webcam, so spread the word.
Wasn’t there a great buzz around our little village on Sunday morning last, when so many motorbikes were parked up in every available space—on both sides of the street and every approaching road? It was all part of the launch of the Athea Road Races, which we hope will take place later this year. And wasn’t it a glorious day for the event, with men, women, and especially all the kids who were in awe of the gleaming bikes? Fingers crossed that all will go to plan and that the Athea Road Races will be back on the map this year.
Sincere congratulations to Nicole and Kieran Daly on the birth of their baby boy, Mickey John. Proud grandparents Noel and Sandra O’Sullivan are super excited to be first-time grandparents.
What can one say about the Athea Drama Production of Sharon’s Grave, which ended its six-night stint over the weekend? Absolutely brilliant, to say the least! Leading up to the opening night, people wondered if it would be a very sad play. However, the standing ovations received over the six nights were so well-deserved. The acting was superb, and there was an abundance of laughs, which is so important in these times of doom and gloom. Everyone, both on stage and behind the scenes, deserves immense praise for their input. We look forward with anticipation to the next production.
