BERNIE GEOGHEGAN: The death has occurred at her home of Bernie Geoghegan (nee Dillon) the Commons, Ardagh  on Wednesday March 12. Pre-deceased by her parents James and Eileen Dillon Adare. Bernie lay in repose at St Molua’s Church Ardagh on Friday March 14, from 7pm to 8.30pm. The Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr Raphael Okanumeh and Fr Michael Noonan on Saturday at 11.30am and family members participated in the ceremony. Bernie was laid to rest afterwards in the local cemetery. Sympathy to her husband Pat, sister Aileen (Dillon), brothers Sean, Frank, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives, friends, neighbours, kind carer Caroline and carers. She was  a caring nurse who worked in England and Ireland and will be sadly missed by all. May she rest in Peace.

BEREAVEMENT GROUP: The Ardagh Bereavement group include the following Bernard Kennelly and Chuck Lee. The Carrigkerry Bereavement Group include Sr. Margaret O’Sullivan, Helena King, Kathleen Hayes, Marie Culhane and Margaret King.

SCHOOL ADMISSION: Carrigkerry National School  will commence accepting applications for Admission to the 2025/26 school year on Monday April 28. BIRTHDAY WISHES: Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Pat King Carrigkerry who recently celebrated a milestone  birthday. A great community worker who is involved in all that is good around the locality. Supervisor of the Community Employment  Scheme he has been involved in all the major developments  that has enhanced the appearance of the village and beyond. He is also well known in sporting terms as a past player and a current Desmond League referee.

CAMINO WALK: Joe Dowling from Ballinabearna, Old Mill is participating in the Camino Charity Walk again this year. It is a 300km walk over 2 weeks in Portugal during Easter. All monies raised will go to the designated charity this year which is ”Vision Ireland” formerly known as NCBI.  Joe is seeking sponsorship for his walk and can be contacted  by phone on 087-6335440 or by email [email protected]. All donations big or small are welcome for this very important charity event.

STATIC CAMERA: On Friday last March 14, at 12 noon a new static speed camera came into operation at Ballyhonan Askeaton on the main road towards Kilcornan. Motorists will receive a fine of €160 and 3 penalty points if they exceed the speed limit of 100mph.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday March 10.The numbers drawn were 4,6,7,30, and  there was no  winner of the €5,900 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received  € 40 each: Paddy O’Sullivan, Newcastle West, Joan Condon, Knockaderry c/o Dawn, Patrick Histon, Ballyhahill, Tom Dillane, Reens, Ardagh, Fiona Woulfe, Dunganville. Next week’s  Jackpot will be €6,000. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.  Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Rebecca English Ballyneety, who won €275  in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday March 14. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry,  and from the radio station.  All support will be appreciated. GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s lost to Newcastle West by 2-8 to 0-8 in round 2 of the West Senior Football League at Newcastle West on Saturday March 8. TEAM: Cormac Mann,  Shane Fitzgerald, Aaron Heffernan, Mossie Shine, Kevin Meade, Brendan Mc Carthy, Michael Shanahan,  Lorcan Murphy, Liam Kennedy, Fionn Gleeson, John Hayes, Sean Ryan, Luke Corrigan, Alan Daly, Mike Long. Subs Shay Greaney, Oisin Commane, Con Enright.

ALL IRELANDWIN: Congratulations  to St Kieran’s players Eoin Sheahan, Sean Long, Jack O’ Sullivan, Conor McMahon, Gavin Thompson, Shane O’ Mahony and David O’ Connell who were part of the Scoil Mhuire agus Íde, Newcastle West team panel who defeated Boyne Community School Trim  by 2-13 to 1-11,  in the All Ireland  Under 19 ‘C Hurling Championship Final played in Banagher on Friday March 16.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Róisín Ambrose (Captain, 0-1)Sophie Hennessy and Iris Kennelly (0-1) from the Old Mill ladies club were members of the Limerick team  who defeated Carlow by 2-9 to 1-3 in Division 3 of the National Football League played at Moylish Campus Limerick on Friday March 7.

SOCCER NEWS: Creeves Celtic lost 3-0 at home to Broadford United in the Premier Division of the Desmond League on Sunday March 9. Carrig Celtic lost 3-2 (Seanie King, Adam Bennett) after extra time in the First Round of the Riedy Cup. Kilcolman Rovers lost 2-0 away to Askeaton/Kilcornan in the Second Round of the Riedy Cup. In Division 1 of the Desmond Ladies League Creeves Celtic defeated Abbeyfeale United 1-0 (Ciara O’Connor) at home.

CEMETERY STATIONS: The Stations of the Cross will be recited in Calvary Cemetery each Sunday during Lent at 3pm. All are welcome to attend, participate and pray for the souls of the departed.

FITNESS CLASS: St Kieran’s GAA Club are holding a fitness on the move class for adults aged 55 plus  on Fridays from 2-3pm, at Ardagh Community Hall. This is a follow up to the 4-week class held last December. €5 per person per class and for more information call Paula on (087)2223581

RAMBLING HOUSE:  A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday March 19, at 8.00pm and teas served.  All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend for a great night’s enjoyment.

ITAS NIGHT: Ita’s rambling house will be held in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday  March 21, at 8pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend  for a great night’s enjoyment.

CHARITY CÉILÍ: A Charity  Céilí in aid of Down Syndrome Limerick will be held in the Community Centre Monagea on Saturday March 22, from 9pm. Music by Mountain Road Céili Band and admission is €12.  Refreshments will be served, and all support will be greatly appreciated. Down Syndrome Limerick have provided support for those with Down Syndrome and their families throughout the city and county since 1971.

CLUB DRAW: The Limerick GAA Club draw for 2025 is now open for membership. The Saint Kieran’s club are promoting it, and the first draw will be held  on Saturday March 29. The entry fee for the ten draws is € 100, and € 21,000 will be given out in prize money each month. The first prize is € 10,000, 2nd prize € 3,000, 3rd prize € 2,000, 4th prize € 1,000, 5th prize is an exclusive star prize, ( €500 Woodlands Hotel Voucher) and 4  prizes of € 500, four prizes € 250, and 17 prizes of € 100. The club will receive 50% of all membership received which is vital for the running of it over the year.
