STORM: The recent storm has caused many to rethink their dependence on
electricity. People with turf were able to cope, as many of them, had
grown up without the gadgets now available. The removal of trees was
another contested matter, before a local person without any rules or
regulations could do a clean-up. Now we have people in their polished
shoes dictating to men on the ground and they having little work
experience themselves, annoy the real heroes on the ground. Many have
seen structures badly damaged and with cost of refurbishment, the only
option for some is to abandon them. Few have spoken of the fear, and
dread that old people living alone had to endure, from hearing the
hyped storm forecasts. Thanks to neighbours, friends and relations,
most coped in a satisfactory manner.
Who will be held accountable for lapses in preparedness and crisis readiness?

DAMP: The bathroom and the kitchen are the two biggest sources of the
moisture that creates condensation in most homes. By keeping the
bathroom door closed and venting humid air using an extractor fan or
by opening the window for at least 15 minutes after showering you can
stop it spreading to the rest of your house. In the kitchen, using a
cooker hood that extracts to the outside and opening a window while
cooking helps keep moisture at bay and vents any air pollution it
might create. Dry laundry outside.

WASTE: The impact of this waste goes far beyond the visible rot in
fields. Globally, nearly a third of all food produced is never eaten,
and in the U.K., unharvested crops contribute an estimated 6 billion
metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually — 11 percent of the
country’s agricultural emissions. Across the Atlantic, the problem
plays out on an even larger scale. Laurie Beyranevand, the director of

Graduate School in the U.S., highlights the strain on natural
resources caused by overproduction.
