Christys Bar, Listowel on March 3rd.

HOME: These extra, overlooked costs of owning a home are often called
“phantom costs.” Phantom costs include things like maintenance and
repair costs, rising property taxes, and insurance premiums. If you
want to know the true cost of homeownership, you’ve got to take into
account these hidden costs in addition to the more obvious ones.

TOILETS: Only two in five people in the world have access to safely
managed sanitation services. 4 billion people suffer from water
shortages for one month or more per year, a significant and alarming
indicator that there is not enough water to meet human demand. (1) In
many countries, the lack of management and treatment of faeces is a
major health issue. Today, nearly two billion people use a drinking
water source contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of
contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio. The World Health
Organisation estimates that contaminated drinking water causes more
than 500,000 deaths from diarrhoea each year.

RYANAIR: In a bid to lower the tax and surcharges it has to pay for
operating at airports on the continent, Ryanair has announced that
certain routes will no longer operate.

Spain is one of the popular holiday spots set to be affected, with the
airline announcing plans to cut air traffic here over summer 2025 by a
whopping 18 percent. This equates to a loss of around 800,000 seats
and 12 routes in total. The airline said in a statement to the Mirror
that it will be closing its Jerez and Valladolid operations, get rid
of one Santiago based airport and will also cut traffic in Vigo,
Zaragoza, Asturias, and Santander.

his missionary vocation and joined the SMA as a young man in 1947.
Little did he know then where this decision would lead him. He was
ordained on 13 July 1952. He spent 3 years at University College Cork
and 1 year at London University. He was then assigned to the Diocese
of Jos, in Northern Nigeria, which was at that time home to a young,
emerging church. He taught in Mary Immaculate Teacher Training
College, Kafanchan. Later in response to emerging needs Der was
appointed to the Prefecture of Illorin to assist with the setting up
of the new Mount Carmel Teacher Training College in Eloja and he
became the first principal. He remained in Illorin working in the
parishes of Oro and Ekan Meje until he returned to Ireland in 1974 for

PLANNING: Minister James Browne was asked by Meath West TD Peadar
Tóibín if he will change the law to stop vexatious opposition to
farmers’ planning permissions.

Tóibín said that these submissions opposing farmers’ plans frequently
come from individuals with no material interest in an area, as
currently, a small number of “serial objectors, often located many
miles from a development”, can oppose a planning permission.

GENIUS: But in sudden savant syndrome an ordinary person with no such
prior interest or ability and no precipitating injury or other CNS
incident has an unanticipated, spontaneous epiphanylike moment where
the rules and intricacies of music, art or mathematics, for example,
are experienced and revealed, producing almost instantaneous
giftedness and ability in the affected area of skill sets. Because
there is no underlying disability such as that which occurs in
congenital or acquired savant syndromes, technically sudden savant
syndrome would be better termed sudden genius.

HAPPY: When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, he
assured Americans of their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. This idea seems to lead many Americans to chase after new
gadgets and hedonistic pleasures. But what if that approach is wrong?
What if happiness comes from aiming to make others happy, instead of
doing nice things for yourself?
