VICE PRESIDENT: Nice to see  Anne Horan from Glin and Carrigkerry N.S. making presentations to 12 retiring  teachers from the Limerick city area in a recent newspaper feature. Anne   was named as the  vice president of the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) in April 2024. She has been a member of the organisation since she began teaching in 1980 and has worked her way upwards to her latest position. From staff representative to a member of the central executive  committee. From Ballineen West Cork Anne has represented District 13 which covers Limerick and Kerry on the INTO central executive  committee since 2015. Onwards and upwards to Anne in the future and Carrigkerry School is in good hands during her absence.

CEILI HOUSE: Kieran Hanrahan and crew recorded a Céilí House Programme featuring traditional music, song, bodhran playing, dancing plus interviews from Moore’s Bar Carrigkerry on Saturday February 8. Céili House is aired on RTE Radio 1 on Saturday nights from 9 to 10pm.

THERESA KIRWAN: The death has taken place of Theresa Kirwan ( nee Flynn)Corgrigg, Foynes,  and late of Rathgonan, Ardagh, peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Monday  February 10. Predeceased by her husband Joe, son Billy and brothers Michael and Patrick. Reposing  was held at St Senan’s Church Foynes  on Wednesday February 12, from 6pm to 8pm. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday  at 12 noon and burial followed in Robertstown Cemetery. Sympathy to son Joe, daughters Niamh, Emer, grandchildren Polly, Alana, Shauna and her husband Michael, Sean, Oisin and their partners, son in law Patrick, daughter in law Gillian, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, kind neighbours and friends. May  she rest In Peace.

MONTHS MIND: The months mind mass for Tom Moran Ardvone Ardagh will be celebrated at St Molua’s Church Ardagh on Friday February 21, at 6.30pm.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday February 10.The numbers drawn were 7,17,19,29, and  there was no  winner of the €5,500 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received  € 40 each: Tom Harnett Ardagh, Alan O’Brien, Newcastle West c/o Neary’s, Macks and Manns Ardagh, Marie O’Connor, Commons Ardagh, Timmy King Carrigkerry. Next week’s  Jackpot will be €5,600. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.  Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Eileen Forde Killeedy, who won €240 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw,  held on Friday February 14. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry,  and from the radio station.  All support will be appreciated. GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s defeated Roanmore (Waterford) by 0-10 to 1-6 after extra time in the Munster Junior B Football Championship quarter final at Ballyagran on Sunday February 9. TEAM: Con Enright, Michael Murphy, Shane Lynch, Ian Mackessy, Fionn Gleeson, Johnny Mc Carthy, Shane Fitzgerald 0-1, Jack O’Sullivan 0-2, James O’Connor, Ray Cahill, Jack Ben Harnett 0-1, Cathal Mc Enery, Luke Corrigan, Oisín Ryan, Anthony Molyneaux 0-6. Subs Mike Upton, John Doyle, Shay Greaney, Cathal O’Connor, Oisin Commane, Bryan Sheahan, Ben Cussen, Dan Duggan, Jack Mulqueen. They play Goleen from Cork in the semi final in Ballyagran  on Sunday February 23, at 2pm.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Róisín Ambrose (Captain, 1-2)and Sophie Hennessy  from the Old Mill ladies club were members of the Limerick team  who defeated Offaly by 5-12 to 1-5 in Division 3 of the National Football League played at Edenderry  on Sunday February 9.

SOCCER NEWS: Carrig Celtic defeated Askeaton/Kilcornan B 3-1  at home in round 1 of the Desmond Cup on Sunday February 9. Adam Bennett 2 and Seanie King scored their goals. Kilcolman Rovers lost 4-3 after extra time at home to Granagh. Mike O’Sullivan 2 and Bernardo Sancho scored their goals. Creeves Celtic had a bye. In the Premier Division of the Desmond Ladies League Kilcolman Rovers lost 2-1 (Mia Forrestal) at home to Ballingarry. Creeves Celtic lost 2-1 (Caoimhe O’Connell) at home to Shountrade in Division 1.

RAMBLING HOUSE:  A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday February 19, at 8.00pm and teas served.  All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend for a great night’s enjoyment.

FITNESS CLASS: St Kieran’s GAA Club are holding a fitness on the move class for adults aged 55 plus commencing on Friday February 21 from 2-3pm, at Ardagh Community Hall. ITAS NIGHT: Ita’s rambling house will be held in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday  February 21, at 8pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend both for a great night’s enjoyment.

NIGHT CLASSES: Desmond College Newcastle West enrolment for night classes will be held on Monday February 24, from 7pm to 9pm. All fees must be paid in full on this night.  There are a wide variety of courses to choose from and the cost is € 90 each. COUNTY SCÓR: The County Senior Scór Finals will be held in the Community Centre Askeaton on Friday March 7 at 7.30pm. The question time final will be held in St Paul’s GAA Pavilion on Thursday March 6 at 6.30pm.

CHARITY CÉILÍ: A Charity  Céilí in aid of Down Syndrome Limerick will be held in the Community Centre Monagea on Saturday March 22, from 9pm. Music by Mountain Road Céili Band and admission is € 12.  Refreshments will be served, and all support will be greatly appreciated. Down Syndrome Limerick have provided support for those with Down Syndrome and their families throughout the city and county since 1971.

GLENVILLE HOUSE:  The following are the Glenville House and Gardens Ardagh opening hours for 2025: Tuesday April 1, to Saturday May 31, Tuesday June 3, to Tuesday June 10. And Heritage Week  Saturday August 16 to Sunday August 24, inclusive, Tuesday to Saturday from 9-30am to 1-30pm. Admission € 5, Students €3, children and old age pensioners are free.  The house is located a mile from Ardagh on the Kilcolman road and is well worth a visit.
