MARY MULLINS: The death has taken place of Mary Mullins (Née O’Donoghue) Ardagh, on Saturday December 14, peacefully at Milford Care Centre. Reposing was held at St Molua’s Church, Ardagh on Monday 16th from 5.30pm to 8 pm. The Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr John Mockler, Fr Michael Noonan, Fr Tony Mullins, Fr Frank Duhig, Fr Frank O’Dea, Fr Larry Madden. Family members participated and Fr John and daughter Martina paid lovely tributes. Mary came from Castlemahon and was 84 years old. She was very committed to her faith and spent 31 years in the Cheshire Home caring for the patients, receiving the red feather award for her service. She travelled on pilgrimage to all the holy sites and had a deep devotion to Padre Pio. She also liked gardening and was widely known and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mary was laid to rest afterwards in the local cemetery close to her home. Sympathy to husband Tom, daughters Valerie and Martina, sons Tommy, Paul, Noel and John, brother Tom, sisters Nora and Chrissie, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, godchild, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. - MARIE COLBERT: The death has occurred of Sr. Marie Christine (Margaret) Colbert St. Louis Convent Rathmines and Ballysten, Shanagolden, on Tuesday December 10, peacefully, in the tender loving care of the staff of Maryfield Nursing Home, Chapelizod, Dublin 20 (D20 WC89). Predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary, her brothers Con, Pat and Michael, her sisters Veronica, Sr. Nora (HRS) and Éilís. Reposing at St. Louis Convent, Rathmines on Wednesday, December 11, from 3:45pm to 5pm, with evening prayer at 5pm. Removal from St. Louis Convent, Rathmines on Thursday morning, to the Church of Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinners, Rathmines arriving for 11am Funeral Mass. Burial took place afterwards at Deans grange Cemetery. Sympathy to her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, Lillian, her extended family, her St. Louis family, former colleagues and a wide circle of friends at home and abroad. May she rest in Peace.
MAURICE HISTON: The death has occurred unexpectedly of Maurice (Moss) Histon at his home in Greenford, London and formerly of Carnagh, Ballyhahill in his 89th year on Wednesday November 27. Predeceased by his wife Mary ( Blaney), parents Paddy and Mary. Sympathy to his son Patrick and partner Victoria, grandson Anthony, brothers Tom, Jack, nephew, nieces, sister -in-law, cousins, the Mc Gettigan and Blaney families Donegal. The funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Our Lady of the Visitation Greenford on January 9, at 1pm, followed by cremation at Breakspear Crematorium. May he rest in Peace.
MARGARET LANE: The death has taken place of Margaret (Peg) Lane, Glenastar, Ardagh, peacefully at Milford Care Centre on Saturday December 21. Pre-deceased by her parents John and Mary, her brothers Mick, Johnny, Tom and Dan, her sisters Mary and Kate, and her nephews Kevin and Tony. Reposing at St Molua’s Church, Ardagh on Friday December 27. from 6pm to 7.30pm. The Requiem Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 11.30am, followed by Cremation afterwards at 3pm in Shannon Crematorium. Sympathy to her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great grandnephew, extended family, friends and neighbours. May she rest in Peace.
CECILIA HAYES: The death has taken place of Cecilia (Cecil) Hayes (née Curley) Ballykeeffe Estate, Dooradoyle, Limerick and formerly of Ardagh, Co. Limerick, on Sunday December 22, peacefully in the exceptional care of St. Anthonys Nursing Home, Pallasgreen, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Patrick (Pat). Predeceased by her brothers Brian and Ray, sisters Moira, Carmel, Sheila and daughter-in-law Caroline. Reposing at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street on Saturday December 28, from 4pm to 5.30pm. Funeral arriving at St. Paul’s Church, Dooradoyle on Sunday for Requiem Mass at 12.30pm followed by burial in Old Mungret Cemetery. JOHN KEANE: The death has occurred of John Francis Keane,Grouse Lodge House, Ardagh, and formerly of Knockanroe, Duagh, Co. Kerry, (peacefully) at home, following a brief illness, surrounded by his family on Saturday December 28. Reposing took place on Monday, December 30, at St. Colman’s Church Kilcolman from 6pm. with funeral prayers at 8pm. The Requiem Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 12 noon, followed by burial afterwards in Ardagh Cemetery. Sympathy to his wife Mary Ita (née Crowley), son Diarmuid, daughters Eileen Lardner (Kilcolman) and Kathleen Sheahan (Glin), daughter-in-law Angela, sons-in-law Damien and Kieran, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends. CARER AWARD: Congratulations to Ellen Gannon, Newcastle West who was honoured with the Munster Young Carer of the Year 2024 award as part of the Netwatch Young Carer of the Year national awards. Ellen aged 11 was recognised at the annual ceremony for minding her twin brothers with nonverbal autism. She attends Kilcolman National School, and her brothers Andrew and James Gannon attend Nano Nagle special school in Listowel. Ellen herself has ADHD and Dyslexia but helps to care for them both and dotes on them with love affection and countless energy. Despite her responsibilities , she excels in sports, enjoys art and brings joy to everyone around her. All three children live with their mother Helen O’Flynn, originally from Ballyegna, Ardagh.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday December 16.The numbers drawn were 2,12,18,20, and there was no winner of the €5,000 Jackpot. SOCCER NEWS: In the Desmond Division 3 League Cup semi-final Kilcolman Rovers lost on penalties (5-4) to Askeaton/Kilcornan B after a 1-1 (Ronan Shire) draw played in Hanley Park on Tuesday December 10. Carrig Celtic drew 1-1 (Ray Cahill) away to Breska Rovers B in Division 2 on Sunday December 15.
GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s Kieran’s lost to Galtee Gaels by 0-12 to 1-5 in the County Under 20 B Football Championship final played at Sean Finn Park Rathkeale on Friday December 20. They trailed by 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time. ARDAGH WALK: The Ireland Lights Up Walk will start on Wednesday January 8, for five weeks up to February 12, at 7pm sharp. The organisers are St Kieran’s GAA Club and the walk will be around the new field and Astro pitch, and all are welcome.
SAINT ITA: To mark St Ita’s Day in Killeedy a parish social will be held in St Ita’s Hall Raheenagh on Wednesday January 15, at 8pm. Music by Peter Burke, buffet served, admission € 20. Tickets available around the locality.
RAMBLING HOUSE: A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday January 15, at 8.00pm and teas served. Ita’s rambling house will be held in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday January 17, at 8pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend both for a great night’s enjoyment.
