The Election fever is over and life goes on as normal for most of us. Ballyhahill had its own excitement at the weekend. On last Saturday evening a great night of parish co-operation took place with Ballyhahill Development, the Parish Hall and the Ballyhahill National school coming together to provide entertainment for all ages. Up first, in the Parish Hall, were the pre-school pupils under the guidance of Sharon who took to the stage like ducks to water to tell us how Jesus was born. John spotted a live mike and took it over and I can see him becoming the next Taoiseach in years to come! It was funny to watch their antics. Next up were the primary school pupils who entertained with drama and song on a Christmas theme. They were all so confident in their roles. As I watched I was amused to know that some of those children were probably unaware that their parents, grandparents and even great grandparents once performed on that same stage back through the years. It is lovely to see it continuing. This was followed by a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus who led all down the street like the Pied Piper to turn on the Christmas Tree lights at the Church grounds. Sharon Sheehy, Dromagarraun,  had the honours of switching them on this year. Then it was back to the Hall again for tea and buns and a chat with the neighbours. Well done to teachers, pupils, parents and volunteers for a great start to the Christmas season. Meanwhile down in Loughill there was similar excitement with the blessing and lighting of their tree and the beautiful singing of the Inbhear choir. In spite of the rather wet day the whole parish of Loughill/Ballyhahill came out in force to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.

Congratulations to my former neighbour Ciara O’Grady who got engaged last week, in New York, to Michael Quilligan. They live in Newcastlewest with their daughter Phoebe. Wishing them many happy years ahead.

Sorry to hear that Nora Riordan from Abbeyfeale has died. I met her in Lourdes in 2022. A great lady well loved by her family. Sympathies to them all.

On a personal level it is just four years since Jim Prendeville got his stroke. Despite the lack of speech and movement we are doing ok. He enjoys the company of the grandchildren with whom we are blessed. We have learned the art of patience and can still find joy in life. Buíochas le Dia!
