HOSPITAL: Inside the more than 600 Catholic hospitals across the country, not a single nun can be found occupying a chief executive suite, according to the Catholic Health Association.

Nuns founded and led those hospitals in a mission to treat sick and poor people, but some were also shrewd business leaders. Sr. Irene Kraus, a former chief executive of Daughters of Charity National Health System, was famous for coining the phrase “no margin, no mission.” It means hospitals must succeed — generating enough revenue to exceed expenses — to fulfill their original mission.

CORRUPT: Revealing the (corrupt) record in 14th-century Ireland ————————-

Failing the Knights Templar

Bicknor was accused of mishandling the possessions of the Templars, a military order founded for the Crusades in the Middle East. Their arrest and trial in 1308 was a Europe-wide affair, ordered by Pope Clement V .

It reached Dublin in January 1308, when the English king commanded that the papal order be followed. The Templars held a wide range of lands and churches in Ireland, and when the king’s agents appeared to take possession, they were instructed to record the value of the land, equipment, animals and crops that they found. Then they were supposed to manage the estates carefully, keeping records of what they had done.

Instead, the records were patchy and fragmentary. In 1328, the English treasurer complained that the summary sent to London was ‘insufficient’ and gave a long list of the ways in which they had failed.

LEGIONNAIRES’Disease

It started with a sudden outbreak of illness at a Philadelphia hotel in 1976. The victims were overwhelmingly American Legion member, who were gathered for an annual conference, that year swelled by Bicentennial fervor. The party screeched to a halt as dozens of attendees were sickened.

As George Dehner describes in his article on the history of the disease, “the affliction, dubbed Legionnaires’ disease in commemoration of its 29 unlucky fatal victims and their 153 stricken colleagues, struck suddenly and left the attending physicians mystified about its cause.”

FAMINE: The headlines of the day nevertheless praised Abdülmedjid. “Irish Distress—Turkish Sympathy” declared The Nenagh Guardian on April 21, 1847, while four days earlier Dublin’s The Nation had hailed the friendship between “The Sultan and the Irish People.” Even the cautiously conservative London Times that same day declared that the Sultan’s generosity to the Irish “does him great credit.” Picking up on the story, the English religious magazine Church and State Gazette on April 23 lauded Abdülmedjid as a ruler “representing multitudinous Islam populations,” for his “warm sympathy with a Christian nation.

Castletown Media, the production company behind the new film Roadmap to Reality: Carlo Acutis and Our Digital Age, has announced that the National Eucharistic Congress Inc. and the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame have become official partners for the upcoming documentary exploring the life of the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint.

Carlo Acutis ; He had a deep devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and so he developed a website which catalogued The Eucharistic Miracles of the World.

Carlo contracted leukaemia. The doctor treating Carlo asked him if he was suffering much pain and he responded, “There are people who suffer much more than me.” He died on 12 October 2006 when he was only fifteen. Before his death, Carlo said, “I am happy to die because I lived my life without wasting even a minute of it on anything displeasing to God”. This is what he asks of us, that we may not waste our lives on pointless things that don’t please God.
