NET ZERO: There remains hope the world will be able to make the transition to net zero before we reach the ‘upper limit’ of 2°C hotter than the global temperature was in the pre-industrial age.
This said, it’s true that even this limit is far from ideal, as indeed even the temperature rising to 1.5°C – which the Australian Academy of Science has previously declared would be “virtually impossible” to avoid – shall result in a number of very serious consequences. Australia playing a role in seeking to stop the worst of climate change requires us to be bold in this decade. There will surely be some minor setbacks along the way. But pursuing such a path – even with some speed bumps – is surely a far finer course of action than being too timid to pursue a proper plan, and opting for ‘transition’ fossil fuels over real solutions.
Solar alongside other renewables lights the path ahead for Australia’s energy future. Canberra now just needs to find the courage to follow it.

PAPERS: The Albury Banner and Wodonga Express
Aug 27 1909 • Wodonga, Albury, New South Wales, Australia
Death of Rev Father Leahy. The death occurred in Sydney on Monday of Rev. Father Daniel Leahy, who was well known in Albury and many other parts of the Goulburn diocese. Father Leahy was born in Knockanure, County Kerry, Ireland, in 1866, and was therefore only 43 years of age. He came to Australia about 18 years ago, his first mission being in Goulburn, subsequently serving at Cootamundra, Albury, and Wagga. For the last seven years he has been in charge of the Koorawatha district, and was greatly beloved by all classes in his extensive parish. About eighteen months ago the deceased left on a trip to see his people in the old country, where his father and other members of the family are still living. On his return he seemed to be in the best of health and spirits, but time ago he caught a severe cold, which greatly prostrated him, and before he had recovered caught another chill in attending the obsequies of the late Rev. Father Lane. Becoming seriously ill, he proceeded to Sydney to consult the best medical authorities, entering by their advice the Lewisham Hospital for treatment, where he died. Deceased was a brother of Dr. Leahy, of Wagga. The funeral took place at Wagga on Wednesday morning, when a solemn requiem Mass was solemnised at St. Michael’s.

Winter
Watching the last of these days disappear
feeling the air get colder
seeing the world get darker.
Memories of lying on the grass
of the sun warming my closed eyes
Now, the warmth is gone
the sunshine is gone
the world has turned into something new
something cooler, something darker
something different, something beautiful
