WHAT A GREAT DAY

Last Saturday, the Annual Fair Day here in Athea turned out to be a great success and the Lovely dry day was a real added bonus. Stalls set up early in the morning displaying their goods with everything as the saying goes——from a needle to an anchor on display .There were goats, ponies, hens, geese and all the mixed smells of the Fair Day wafted through the street.

The Athea Ladies Football Club were kept busy selling their tickets for the prizes they had on offer so, well done to them all for helping the club. It was great to have Collins’ Shop at everyone’s disposal for the eats and teas, coffees etc ,as well as Brown Joe’s where the Full-Irish was enjoyed by many.

Down at the Hall the Athea Arts and Crafts Group had all their beautiful pieces on display —from Crochet to Knitted Garments to Xmas decorations, Mary Teresa Hurley’s lovely Xmas Cards depicting Athea Scenes, and a whole lot more made by the group which were a sight to behold. Teas and lovely buns were enjoyed by many also in the hall indeed a lovely get together . Well done to the group.

In all it was a really lovely day where people chatted and reminisced and met neighbours and friends who they may not have seen in a while .Well done to all and long may The Fair Day be a part of the Athea Community.

Congrats to Patrice Hayes of Templeathea and Clodagh Ahern of Parkana who celebrated their joint 18th  birthdays at Brown Joe’s  on Saturday Night last along with their family and friends,  all having a great night.

A great game of football was enjoyed by all the spectators on Saturday last at the pitch when the u -20s combination of Athea, Glin and Ballyhahill or, as they are known as, Shannon Gaels, played a very fast sporting game against the Askeaton-Ballysteen -Kilcornan combination  winning by 6 points, the young Athea players on the team were really outstanding.

This Friday night 15 the sees the 2 films being screened at Clounmacon Community Centre  by Leo Finucane namely Nightmare and Rolling back the Years,  Leo Finucane’s great works. The fundraiser is 10 euro and refreshments will be served , doors open at 7.30 with an 8 pm start.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Darkness cannot drive out Darkness-

only Light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out Hate

only Love can do that.
