JIMMY MC COY: The death has taken place of Jimmy Mc Coy 36 Castleview Newcastle West and formerly of Ballyloughane, Carrigkerry peacefully on Thursday November 7,at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Sadly, his brother Seanie passed away the day before Jimmy in England. Jimmy reposed at Riedy’s Funeral Home, Newcastle West, on Sunday November 10, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Arriving at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newcastle West for 11.30am Mass. Fr Joe Cussen celebrated the Requiem Mass on Monday morning and Canon Frank Duhig and family members participated during the ceremony and Fr Joe in his homily and son Connie paid lovely tribute. Symbols of Jimmy’s life included a teacup, glasses, newspaper, betting slip, paint brush, Padre Pio statue, Limerick Jersey, family photograph, his cap and wedding band.
Jimmy was married to Kay for nearly 50 years, he was gifted as a painter and made great friendships through his work and social contacts. He loved Limerick hurling and like to place a bet on the horses. He always had a great welcome for people calling to his home and to those he met on his daily walks around the town. He had great faith and devotion to Padre Pio, which was a great comfort to him when sickness struck. He was a gentle and kind person whose life revolved around family, and he will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Donie sang ‘Lovely Glenagown’ in a final tribute to recall his native place Ballyloughane and Maura sang ‘Going Home’ as his coffin departed the church. Following the mass a private family cremation took place.
The large crowd that attended on both days showed the high regard that Jimmy and family are held in. Sympathy to his wife Kay, daughter Mary (Sheehan), sons Connie and James, daughter-in-law Gráinne, son-in-law Danny, adored grandchildren Rhys, Vincent, Katie, Róisin, Maebh, James, and Oísín, brother Timmy, sister Josie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law. nephews and nieces, neighbours, relatives and a wide circle of friends. Sympathy also to Seanie’s family on their sad loss. May they both rest in Peace.
HOSPICE THANKS: The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, together with Milford Hospice Friends wish to thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously towards the Church gate collection taken up before Masses at Ardagh/ Carrigkerry on Saturday/ Sunday November 2/3. The amount collected was €354.75 in Ardagh and €459.40 in Carrigkerry. A special thank you to the collectors who gave so willingly of their time to stand at the tables.
FRIENDS THANKS: The Friends of St Ita’s Community Hospital Newcastle West wish to thank the collectors and everyone who contributed so generously to their church gate collection taken up before Masses at Ardagh/Carrigkerry on Saturday/Sunday November 9/10. The amount collected was €200.55 in Ardagh and €177.25 in Carrigkerry. This money will go towards ongoing improvements for the patients in St Ita’s Hospital Newcastle West.
CALENDAR: In the RTE Weather Calendar 2025 the previous year’s list of winners in their photo competition are included. Congratulations to Elaine Crowley from Knockfinisk, Athea, whose lovely local scene was a runner-up in the Winter season category.
SOCCER NEWS: Carrig Celtic defeated Feenagh 6-1 away in Division 2 of the Desmond League on Sunday November 10 with goals from Ray Brouder 3, Brian Foley 2, Liam King. In Division 3 Kilcolman Rovers drew 0-0 away to Glantine/Mountcollins B. Creeves Celtic had no match. In the Premier Division of the Ladies League Kilcolman Rovers lost 2-0 to Dromore United and Creeves Celtic had no fixture in Division 1. The Creeves Celtic club have four players representing the Desmond League in the Oscar Traynor Cup this season, Kevin Guina, Eoin Mc Enery, Tommy Dillane and Andrew White. Noel O’Donnell is part of the management team. Dylan Moloney from Newcastle West Town is also part of their panel. In their first match they lost 4-1 away to the Kerry League.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday November 11.The numbers drawn were 13,15,22,24, and there was no winner of the €7,700 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each: Joe and Con c/o Moore’s Bar, Mary Harnett Limerick, Bernie O’Connell Ardagh, Paula O’Connor Ardagh, Mary Lee Newcastle West. Next week’s Jackpot will be €7,800. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated. Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.
RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Theresa Steele Rathkeale, who won €290 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday November 15. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. The station can be contacted at 069-66200 if people have news of interest to the West Limerick area.
MOVEMBER CHARITY WALK: Billy Mann Coaching and Cormac Mann in association with St Kieran’s GAA Club are getting men walking for Movember, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7pm. The walk is 12 laps of the ASTRO field. Participants can donate in the bucket at the field or to the account in the Movember App.
NOVEMBER ROSARY: The Rosary is being recited on each Sunday of November in the three cemeteries in Newcastle West as follows: Famine Cemetery at 3pm, Calvary Cemetery 3.20pm, Churchtown Cemetery 3.40pm. The Rosary is being recited also in Loughill Cemetery at 2.30pm and Reilig Mhuire, Askeaton at 3pm each Sunday. The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls.
COMMUNITY GAMES: St Kieran’s Community Games AGM will take place on Wednesday November 20, at 8.15pm, in Coolcappa Community Hall. The committee would like to see more people come forward so they can get more children involved in as many events as possible. New faces are the lifeblood of all clubs to keep the momentum going.
REMEMBERANCE MASSES: The dates and venues for this November Remembrance Masses are St Mary’s Church Carrigkerry on Thursday November 21, at 7.30pm and St Molua’s Church Ardagh on Friday November 29 at 7.30pm. Those to be remembered in Carrigkerry are John Hennessy, Noel Hennessy, John Michael Mc Sweeney, Kathleen ( Kay) Ahern, Laurance (Larry) Ward. Those to be remembered in Ardagh are Catherine Mullins, Maria Cahill, Bridget Barrett, Mary Curley, Joan Duggan, Michael (Mike) Sweeney, Mary Griffin, William (Bill) O’Connell, Patrick (Paddy) Liston. NOTE: If anybody who died in the last 12 months is omitted from the list would their family, please contact the parish office to rectify the records. The Remembrance Mass in St Colman’s Church Kilcolman will be celebrated on Friday November 22,at 7.30pm.
COPSE’S LIGHTS: The Copse family Glensharrold Christmas Light’s display will be switched on this coming Saturday November 23, at 5pm. The charities to benefit this year will be Milford Hospice and the children’s Ark Unit UHL both based in Limerick City. The house can be located in Glensharrold, 2 miles from Carrigkerry village and 2 miles from the main Ardagh to Shanagolden road, turn off at Kilcolman cross. Eircode V94V6KC. All are welcome.
COFFEE MORNING: A Coffee Morning will be held in Carrigkerry Community Centre on Sunday November 24, from 10.30am to 1pm. The committee would appreciate any donations of baked goods, which can be dropped into the Community centre from 10am on the morning of the event. All support will be greatly appreciated and the proceeds from the morning will go to the Irish Cancer Society.
SET CÉILÍ: A set Céilí will be held in Ardagh Parish Hall (V42F864) on Sunday November 24, from 2-30-5-30pm. Music by Donie Nolan and Taylors Cross Band, tea served, raffle for numerous spot prizes and admission is €10. The Céilí is in aid of St Kieran’s New Field Development Fund. The dancing will feature mainly sets, and a mix of social with waltz, Siege of Ennis, 2 hands etc. All support from the locality and outside areas will be greatly appreciated.
CEOL AN GHEIMHRIDH: Tournafulla village is the venue for this year’s Limerick Ceol an Gheimhridh Competition on Sunday November 24. Hosted by CCÉ Tuar an Fola the events are confined to Comhaltas members under 14 age categories and include music, song, dance, recitation, storytelling etc. The county Limerick Fleadh Cheoil will be held in Croom in 2025.
COOLCAPPA FUNDRAISER: Coolcappa (V42HF60)Light Up Vehicle Run in aid of Coolcappa National School and The Butterfly Club Rathkeale will be held on Sunday November 24. Registration from 3pm, Entry fee € 20, cash only. Children’s Convoy from 4.15, and the adult run begins at 5pm, sharp. Refreshments will be available, and a raffle will be held for lots of spot prizes. All support will be greatly appreciated.
