COMMUNITY CENTRE GRANT: The Community Centres Investment Fund 2024 was launched last June to provide investment for upgrade and refurbishment works on existing community centres under two categories. Funding under Category 1 was announced recently and Ardagh Development Association is due to receive €20,891 as part of the overall allocation of €604,325 for 34 Limerick Community Centres.
COUNTY CHAMPIONS: Congratulations to St Kieran’s team, management and club, on their maiden success in the County Junior B Football Championship final played at Askeaton Gaelic grounds on Sunday November 3. They defeated Mungret/St Pauls by 1-19 to 0-6 to claim the Jim Lynch Perpetual Cup and a first adult County title since 1990. They led by 1-8 to 0-2 at half-time after a great start that saw them lead by 1-3 to 0-1 after 9 minutes. The highlights included a double save by Con Enright and a great solo goal from midfielder Jack O’Sullivan following a mighty catch and solo run.
St Kieran’s continued to dominate affairs on resumption with lots of energy and kick passing that yielded fine point scoring. Donal Nolan was awarded man of the match. James O’Connor captain received the cup from Gerry Phillips representing the county board. SOCCER NEWS: Kilcolman Rovers lost 3-2 at home to Askeaton/Ballysteen in Division 3 of the Desmond League on Sunday November 3. Conor Mc Mahon and David O’Donovan scored their goals. Creeves Celtic and Carrig Celtic had no matches. In the Desmond Ladies Premier League Kilcolman Rovers lost 3-2 away to Charleville with Sophie Hennessy and Hannah Mc Mahon scoring their goals. Creeves Celtic defeated Ballingarry B 4-3 at home in Division 1 with goals from Caoimhe O’Connell 2, Caoimhe Boyce and Leah Reidy.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday November 4.The numbers drawn were 2,6,13,15, and there was no winner of the €7,600 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each Anne Mullins, Cross Ardagh, Lorraine Walsh Ardagh, John Murphy Knockaderry, Hughie O’Mahony Ardagh, S.D.E.L.S.J. c/o Josie. Next week’s Jackpot will be €7,700. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated. Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.
RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Pat Boyce Bruree, who won €305 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday November 8. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. SPLIT THE POT: Congratulations to Shannon Ruttle , who won €423 in the October Creeves Celtic FC Split the Pot monthly draw held at the Thatch Newbridge, on Friday November 8. Tickets to enter the draw are available from committee members, club managers, at Neary’s Ardagh, Inver five crossroads Rathkeale and the Thatch Newbridge. All support will be greatly appreciated.
MOVEMBER CHARITY WALK: Billy Mann Coaching and Cormac Mann in association with St Kieran’s GAA Club are getting men walking for Movember, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7pm. The walk is 12 laps of the ASTRO field. Participants can donate in the bucket at the field or to the account in the Movember App.
NOVEMBER ROSARY: The Rosary is being recited on each Sunday of November in the three cemeteries in Newcastle West as follows: Famine Cemetery at 3pm, Calvary Cemetery 3.20pm, Churchtown Cemetery 3.40pm. The Rosary is being recited also in Loughill Cemetery at 2.30pm and Reilig Mhuire, Askeaton at 3pm each Sunday. The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls.
CARD PLAYING: The card game continues each Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in the Flag Floor Glensharrold . Tea and treats served, and all are welcome.
RETURN BIN: The St Kieran’s GAA club have a Re-Turn bin located in front of the dressing rooms at the field in Ardagh as part of the healthy club initiative. All proceeds from this bottle return scheme will be added to the club’s annual charity road hurling fund at Christmas.
FITNESS CLASS: A fitness class will commence in Coolcappa Hall on Wednesday November 13, from 7-8pm, for 5 weeks. Pre booking is essential , contact Teresa on 087 2768730.
RAMBLING HOUSE: Ita’s rambling house will be held in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday November 15, at 8pm. A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday November 20, at 8.00pm and teas served. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend both for a great night’s enjoyment.
HISTORY TALKS: Rathkeale Historical Society present the third of the season free talks on Friday November 15, at 8-30pm in the Community Arts Centre, upstairs in Rathkeale Library. The title of the talk is ” Catholic Architecture in Ireland 1778 to 1929?”. The speaker is Niamh Ni Ghabhann. The membership of Rathkeale Historical Society for the year is € 10.
PRESENTATION: It is hoped to make a presentation to thank Fr. Michael Noonan for his years of service to the Ardagh/Carrigkerry parish after the 11am Mass in St Mary’s Church Carrigkerry on Sunday November 17. It will be held in Carrigkerry Community Centre, and all are welcome. A box for donations will be placed in both churches and all contributions will be most welcome. People can enclose their donation in a plain sealed envelope titled Fr. Noonan Presentation.
NOONANS LIGHTS: The first fundraiser for the 2024 Noonan Christmas Lights will be held at the Woodlands House Hotel Adare on Sunday November 17. The annual dance will commence at 9.30pm with music by the Michael Collins band. A raffle will be held for numerous spot prizes and all support will be greatly appreciated.
REMEMBERANCE MASS: The dates and venues for this November Remembrance Masses are St Mary’s Church Carrigkerry on Thursday November 21, at 7.30pm and St Molua’s Church Ardagh on Friday November 29 at 7.30pm. The Remembrance Mass in St Colman’s Church Kilcolman will be celebrated on Friday November 22,at 7.30pm.
SET CÉILÍ: A set Céilí will be held in Ardagh Parish Hall (V42F864) on Sunday November 24, from 2-30-5-30pm. Music by Donie Nolan and Taylors Cross Band, tea served, raffle for numerous spot prizes and admission is €10. The Céilí is in aid of St Kieran’s New Field Development Fund. The dancing will feature mainly sets, and a mix of social with waltz, Siege of Ennis, 2 hands etc. All support from the locality and outside areas will be greatly appreciated.
CEOL AN GHEIMHRIDH: Tournafulla village is the venue for this year’s Limerick Ceol an Gheimhridh Competition on Sunday November 24. Hosted by CCÉ Tuar an Fola the closing date for entries is Thursday November 14. The events are confined to Comhaltas members under 14 age categories and include music, song, dance, recitation, storytelling etc. The county Limerick Fleadh Cheoil will be held in Croom in 2025
COOLCAPPA FUNDRAISER: Coolcappa (V42HF60)Light Up Vehicle Run in aid of Coolcappa National School and The Butterfly Club Rathkeale will be held on Sunday November 24. Registration from 3pm, Entry fee € 20, cash only. Children’s Convoy from 4.15, and the adult run begins at 5pm, sharp. Refreshments will be available, and a raffle will be held for lots of spot prizes. All support will be greatly appreciated.
IRISH RAMBLING HOUSE: The Irish Rambling House are holding their annual concert in Siamsa Tire Tralee on Wednesday November 27, at 8pm. The three-hour show will feature the cast members plus special guests Sean O’Sé, Elle Marie O ‘Dwyer, Caroline O’Callaghan, John Kinsella, Sonny Egan, Noel Joyce, Breen’s. CHRISTMAS MARKET: A Christmas Market will be held at Carrigkerry Community Centre ( V94 VY92) on Sunday December 1, from 10am to 3pm.
