Sympathies to Bridie and Stephen Murphy on the death of Stephen’s brother-in-law, Dan Madigan, Ardagh, last week. I know all the family were very fond of him. Sympathies to his wife Joan and all his family.
Thinking too of Breda Finucane, Clounleharde on the death of her sister Máiread Hurley who died this week. Mairead will be such a loss to her husband Pat and young daughter Willow. Sadly, cancer shows no mercy. Sympathies to Breda and Haulie and Breda’s mother Mary Geoghegan and all the extended family and friends.
It has been a week of deaths – Joan O’Riordan, Direen and Hannah Scanlan, Athea followed by Agnes O’Shaughnessy of Ballyhahill. We pray for them all and offer our sympathies to their families. I knew Agnes best as we were fellow members of the ICA for many years. Agnes was great to suss out interesting guests to bring to the meetings. Sadly her last ten years were spent in St Ita’s hospital following a stroke. May they all rest in peace.
Listowel Races are over and well enjoyed I’m sure, Glin Coursing takes place this weekend. Soon we will have Halloween and Christmas. I hear people planning and buying already for Christmas. I tend to put off any planning til much nearer the time. One of the pleasures of having grown children and growing grandchildren is that I do not have to do Christmas cooking anymore which is the best Santa Claus present of all. Meanwhile we are promised another few nice days this week which is something to look forward to.
