VINTAGE: Back in May a small group of vintage enthusiasts set off on a trip from John O’Groats to Lands End, traversing the whole length of the UK in four weeks on their vintage and classic tractors.

This in itself was quite an achievement, but in addition to this, the group raised over €20,000 for Critical, a charitable organisation dedicated to saving lives through providing first responders for medical emergencies.

To celebrate the completion of the challenge and to share their memories of the trip, the group, known as The Irish Rovers, are to hold a presentation night on December 7 at The Farm, Grenagh, Co Cork, courtesy of Mick Forde, who is himself a keen collector of vintage and classic Massey Ferguson tractors.  https://www.agriland.ie/farming-news/irish-rovers-vintage-night-to-celebrate-uk-trip/

SACRED HEART: By Courtney Mares

Vatican City, 21 October, 2024 / 7:49 pm (ACI Africa).

Pope Francis will publish the fourth encyclical of his pontificate on Thursday on “the human and divine love of the heart of Jesus Christ.”

The encyclical, titled Dilexit Nos, meaning “he has loved us,” will be published Oct. 24.

The pope had announced in June that he was preparing a document on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, noting that meditating on the Lord’s love can “illuminate the path of ecclesial renewal and say something meaningful to a world that seems to have lost its heart.”

Pope Francis then described the document as something that “brings together the precious reflections of previous magisterial texts and a long history that goes back to the sacred Scriptures in order to re-propose today to the whole Church this devotion imbued with spiritual beauty.”

STALE Rice; Generally speaking, “fried rice syndrome” symptoms are similar to those seen in reaction to other types of food poisoning (vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramps and the like).

However, unlike other bacteria that cause poisoning pretty immediately after consumption, Bacillus cereus bacterium can lead to reactions 30 minutes to 5 hours after ingestion, Shumaker said.

“Diarrhea could start 8 to 16 hours after eating the contaminated fare,” she revealed.

Although there is no medicine to take when incurring the syndrome, the most important way to stay healthy and combat it, say the experts, is to stay hydrated.

FOOD: BY Nate Berg

In residential buildings, people throw out a lot of garbage, and a huge portion of it is food. An estimated 30% of the garbage of a typical household is food scraps and food that’s gone to waste. When it comes to garbage day, all this food waste—which is mostly water and quite heavy—gets trucked away at great environmental expense.
