EVENING MIRAGE
Well the Northern Lights, which were to be seen by many over the past while, were a joy to watch. Some beautiful photos were shared by ardent photographers who caught the beautiful colours at their best.
Pinks and Purples -A bolt of Yellow disappears into the mountain.
Lakes of Pink and Gold float in the Sky.
The Sun sinks Deeper, Pinks turn to Red and Orange
The Sun disappears; black sky blends into the Horizon.
Indeed a sight to behold at this time of the year.
Again wasn’t Athea the height of activity and good feeling all around over the weekend? The Cancer Awareness Weekend with a Coffee Morning on Friday, and The Big Pink Breakfast on Sunday had the Community Hall very busy, and so well done to the organisers and all those who gave of their time and effort to raise much needed funds for Breast Cancer Awareness -and The Irish Cancer Society, with the events organised by the Healthy Athea and Well Being Club. A great amount was donated with all the proceeds going to the above.
Then on Saturday evening, just before Mass, almost 100 trucks passed through the Village for the Timmy Noonan Memorial Truck Run which started in Moyvane en route to Glin and Tarbert. Well done again to all those who took part and to all the bucket collectors on the night and all who again gave so willingly in aid of CRY-Ireland.
Everyone dug deep in their pockets over the weekend, and no doubt the money will be put to good use.
It was discussed on TV the other day about the many old games that we all used to play before mobile phones and technology took over our lives and how simple they were but how much fun they were at the same time. Those days kids played marbles ,hopscotch ,conkers off the trees hitting them against each other on a string, hide and go seek was a firm favourite, and I remember us as youngsters having a rope down at the back of the Creamery wall hoisting each other down pretending to one of the Famous Five Gang, those were the innocent ,and simple fun filled days.
Sympathy is extended to Nora Matthews of Dalton Street on the death of her sister Kay McCoy last week. She reposed in O’Grady’s Funeral home in Ballingarry and burial took place on Saturday in Kilmeedy
May she rest in peace
