MASS CHANGE: Ardagh/Carrigkerry parish weekend Mass will change from October 19/20, for the autumn/winter months as follows. Mass will be celebrated in Saint Molua’s Church Ardagh on Saturdays at 6.30pm and in St Mary’s Church Carrigkerry on Sunday’s at 11am. Mass is celebrated in St Kyran’s Church Coolcappa on Saturdays at 7.30pm.
FUNERAL REPOSALS: The decision has been taken to restore the practice to allow the remains of the deceased to be reposed at the churches in Ardagh and Carrigkerry. The guidelines for Church reposes will be issued shortly.
ICA THANKS: Ardagh ICA wish to thank all who supported their recent Coffee Morning held in Ardagh Parish hall. They raised the outstanding amount of € 2,150 for Milford Hospice.
ROUNDERS: Congratulations to St Kieran’s lady rounder’s team and their coach Michael Sheahan, on their double Munster blitz success in Mallow on Sunday October 6. St Kieran’s defeated Knockainey captained by Majella O’Connor in the Junior competition. They defeated reigning champions Sporting Limerick captained by Emma Galvin in the Intermediate competition. SOCCER NEWS: Creeves Celtic defeated Abbeyfeale United 3-2 in round 3 of the Munster Junior Cup played at Newbridge on Sunday October 2. Eoin Mc Enery 2, and Anthony Mullins scored their goals. Carrig Celtic defeated Castle United 8-1 at home in round 2 of the Munster Junior Shield. Ray Brouder 3, Adam Bennett 3, and Seanie King 2 were the scorers. Kilcolman Rovers lost 5-3 at home to Askeaton/Kilcornan in the Division 3 League Cup.
Kilcolman Rovers defeated Charleville 2-1 away in the Desmond ladies Premier League Cup Group B match with goals from Sinead Kelly and Sophie Hennessy. Creeves Celtic won 6-5 on penalties following a 2-2 draw at home with Abbeyfeale United in the Division 1 League Cup Group A match with goals from Leah Reidy and Siobhan Guinane.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday October 7.The numbers drawn were 4,11,12,15, and there was no winner of the €7,200 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each: John O’Mahony Ardagh, The Mack’s and Mann’s Skehanagh, Jason Mullins Ardagh, John Dillane Ballinabearna, John R O’Kelly Rooskagh. Next week’s Jackpot will be €7,300. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated. Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.
RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Margaret O’Keeffe Castlemahon, who won € 350 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, be held on Friday October 11. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. The station can be contacted at 069-66200 if people have news of interest to the West Limerick area.
CARDS RETURN: The weekly card game for the winter months held at the Flag Floor Glensharrold, Carrigkerry resumes on Wednesday October 16, at 8.30pm. Teas will be served, and all are welcome to attend.
RAMBLING HOUSES: A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday October 16, at 8.00pm Ita’s rambling house takes place in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday October 18, at 8pm. Jim’s rambling house takes place in Newbridge, Askeaton on Friday October 25 at 8pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend all the venues.
TABLE QUIZ: Creeves Celtic FC are holding a table quiz at the Thatch Bar Newbridge, Askeaton, V94H306 on Friday October 18, at 8pm. Tables of four, € 10 per person and prizes for the top two teams. A Raffle will be held with lots of prizes to be won. All support on the night will be greatly appreciated.
HISTORY TALK: Rathkeale Historical Society present the second of the season free talks on Friday October 18, at 8-30pm in the Community Arts Centre, upstairs in Rathkeale Library. The title of the talk is ” Irish Tobacco ; From Free Trade to Free State” The speaker is Dr. Seán Whitney University of Limerick. Membership of Rathkeale Historical Society for the year is € 10.
SCHOOL FUNDRAISER: Ardagh National School Parents Association are holding a fundraising table quiz in Neary’s Bar, Ardagh on Saturday October 19. at 9pm. Tables of four and €20 per team. First prize: € 100 voucher for the Silver Room Restaurant Newcastle West. Second prize: Wine and chocolate voucher. Third prize: A beauty voucher. All support will be appreciated.
FAMINE WALK: Knockfierna Heritage Society Famine Memorial Walk will take place on Sunday October 20, at 2pm. The walk is to remember the many starving people who walked from Ballingarry to Knockfierna Hill in October 1847 during the famine. All are welcome.
HALLOWEEN DISCO: Coolcappa Parents Association are holding a Children’s Halloween Disco and Fancy Dress at Coolcappa Community Centre on Friday October 25 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Admission € 5 per child and € 10 per family. All children from ages 12 and under are welcome to attend. Parental supervision please. Refreshments shop open and prizes for the best costume and best dancers will be awarded. It is a fundraiser for Coolcappa School.
BUCKET COLLECTION: The Old Mill ladies Gaelic football club are holding a fundraising bucket collection on Saturday October 26, in Newcastle West from 9am to 5pm. All support will be very much appreciated.
CLUB DRAW: The Limerick GAA Club draw for October will be held on Saturday 26 and announced during the Limerick Live 95fm sports show from 10am to 11am. The entry fee for the draw is € 10, per month and € 21,000 will be given out in prize money each month. The top prize is €10,000 and the star prize this month is a shopping voucher worth €500. To join contact the local St Kieran’s club members in person, or online through the Club force App with direct options available. The club will receive 50% of all membership received which is vital for the running of it over the year.
PATRICK O’KEEFFE CÉILÍ: As part of the Patrick O’Keeffe festival a Céilí will be held in An Riocht Clubhouse Castleisland on Sunday October 27, from 3-6pm. Music by Taylors Cross Band, tea served, and admission is €12.
