DEATH:   We just heard that Father Vincent J. Sheehy who presented the statue of Our Lady of the Assumption in the church yard died during the summer in Florida . He served in the Archdiocese of Miami during the 1960s and 1970s. We thank his family for the generous gift. We pray for the repose of his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in eternal peace.

 CHILDREN PRAY THE ROSARY:  On Friday October 18, Aid to the Church in Need will host its annual “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” campaign, inviting children — as well as families, parishes, catechists and teachers — to join in reciting the Rosary that day, pledging their intention to do so at ACN’s dedicated website for the initiative, millionchildrenpraying.org

FAIR DAYS:  Castleisland on Friday, November 1 and Athea will take place on Saturday, November 9.

DRAMA: Athea Drama Group will have a three night run on Thursday, 24th, Sat. 26th and Sunday, October 27. This is a fundraiser for the proposed Athea Playground.

WALK: Knockfierna Heritage Society Famine Memorial Walk will take place on Sunday October 20, at 2pm.

ABBEYFEALE RUGBY CLUB:  The club are looking to provide an option for girls in the Abbeyfeale area to play rugby.  To make a start they plan to train an U14 side for the coming season. Áine Reidy and Mike Nash will coach the team and Áine has also arranged to have a guest coach from Munster Rugby once a month.  A Give it a Try session is also planned for the coming weeks and the dates will be posted on social media.

MEMORIAL tractor/truck run will take place on November 10 to mark the 1st Anniversary of the death of John Brennan of Kilflynn. ABBEYFEALE COMMUNITY ALERT:

Before the winter sets in check that you have a working smoke alarm.  The annual Christmas party takes place in Fr. Casey’s on Sunday, November 24th.  Tickets will shortly go on sale.  Once you reach the age of 65 and live alone or with a person/s aged over 65 you are entitled to receive a monitored alarm system. But if you have younger people living in the house who are out for long periods of the day then because you are spending hours alone you are also entitled to the system provided that you are over 65.  The free equipment is provided by Pobal following an application from Abbeyfeale Community Alert, there will be a monitoring fee to be paid from the second year of installation to the installing company of €72.  Please note that this fee has increased by €6 and is payable in a lump sum each year after year one.  Should you not have a landline the installing company Task provide a sim card at a rate of €7.50 per month payable from day one.  Committee members are Michael O’Kelly N.T., Seamus Stack, Mossie Gleeson, Kathleen Collins, Mary McArthur, John O’Sullivan, Billy Quirke N.T., Cllr.
