Developments at Pairc na nGael
Our club was fortunate to receive funding from the Kilathmoy Windfarm Fund recently, which will be used to part fund the upgrade of our gym facilities in the Clubhouse. We are currently carrying out some research and hope to purchase new equipment shortly. The Club are also planning to install a Ball Wall at the Club Grounds in the coming months, which will add another important facility to our grounds.
U10 Girls
Our U10 season came to an end last Friday night when they made the trip to Mountcollins to take on the hosts. Girls have made huge improvements in their skills this year as well as the importance of working as part of a team. Huge thank you to their coaches Martin, Mary Ita and Kevin for all the training during the year. We are already looking forward to seeing them back on the field in 2025.
U10 Boys
Our U10s travelled to Killeedy on Friday evening, We had 19 boys togged out and they performed brilliantly against Mungret, Adare and Drom/Broadford. They have trained hard all year and have improved with every game.

U14 Div 2 Football Championship Semi-Final
Athea took centre stage on the main pitch in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Saturday morning when they took on Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the Div 2 County Semi-final. On a perfect day for football the game started at a lively pace with Kildimo-Pallaskenry racing into a 3 point lead in the first 10 minutes before Athea settled into the game. On the 10th minute Tadhg Hunt picked up the ball on the 21 yard line following a one-two with Mark Collins and side stepped around a couple of defenders before finding the corner of the net, this settled the Atheateam and in the next 10 minutes Aaron Hunt scored 1:01 and Aaron Broderick struck a powerful goal in off the cross bar. Kildimo-Pallaskenry then scored a wonder goal with their no.6 Jamie Taylor soloing half the length of the field to score a cracking goal. Athea reacted well again with two more points before the break leaving Athea six points up at halftime 3:05 to 1:05 after playing with the wind. Within 15 minutes of the second half Kildimo-Pallaskenry had gone from 6 points down to one point ahead and Athea looked to be in trouble against the wind. Athea started to get on top around the middle of the field with Mark Collins regularly turning defence into attack and Daniel Hunt scoring two points before Tom Mullane powered through and rifled a powerful shot to the roof of the net. Shane Ahern was a constant danger in the inside forward line and winning frees every time he took on the Kildimo-Pallaskenry defence. Athea eventually won-out 4:10 to 2:09 after a great game against a very good Kildimo-Pallaskenry team. Athea had great performances throughout the team and can now look forward to a County Div 2 Final against Mungret. Edward Kelly, Oisin McCarthy, Jamie Brosnan, Tony Ambrose, Paddy O’Connor, Jack Leahy, Daniel Broderick, Daniel Hunt, Mark Collins, Aaron Hunt, Tom Mullane, Tadhg Hunt, John Ahern, Aaron Broderick, Shane Ahern, Eoin Ahern, Se Ahern, Cathal Fitzgerald, Conor Leach, Liam Og Reidy, Kane Brouder, Nathan Ambrose, Owen Kenrick and Joe Scanlon(inj).
U14 Hurling
U14 county Championship Div 4 final
Athea 4;05
St Kierans 1;03
Not to be our day, we came up against a very strong St Kierans team. With 15 minutes in there was nothing between these teams a lucky goal for Kierans shifted the momentum but to give credit to this team they fought to the end. To reach a championship final for these boys is a great achievement and although there is no cup coming back to Athea we have to give credit to how far this team has come. The future of Athea hurling is very bright. Thanks to all the supporters who came to Mick Neville Park Thursday.

U16 Mens Football
Boys county quarterfinal
Griffins/Glin/Athea 4-10 Galtee Gaels 4-05
The Grifffns/ Glin/Athea combination welcomed Galtee Gaels to Sun splashed Athea last Sunday for what turned out to be a rip-roaring contest between 2 evenly matched teams. Two late goals from Eric Barrett and Gavin Thompson snached victory from the jaws of defeat. They now play Ahane in the county semifinal on Saturday October 5th in Mick Neville Park.
U16 Ladies Football
Hard look to our under 16 who were defeated by Ballylanders in Mungret on Monday night in the semi-final. This was a great game played by two efficient teams with Athea losing out 3.16 to 1.14. Huge thanks to Niall Barrett and Helen Sheehan for all their hard work with the team this year
Mens Premier Junior Football Championship
Round 5 – Athea 2-08 Cappagh 3-08
We played Cappagh in Foynes on Saturday afternoon last in our final group Game. We played against the wind in the first half and probably played our best football of the year to lead at half time 2-5 to 2-4. We didn’t get to the same level of performance in a low scoring second half to lose in the end by a goal. There were impressive performances throughout the field, especially by Eoin Sheahan, Evan Curry, Eoin O Shea, Shane Mulvihill, Brian O Connor and Dylan Griffin. Team: Gerard Ahern, Eoin Sheahan, Calum Buckley, Tommy Quaid, Jack O Connor, Micheal Dalton, Jason Kelly, Evan Curry, Eoin O Shea, Shane Mulvihill, Dylan Griffin, Brian O Connor, Daire O Shea, Andrew O Riordan, T.J. Hunt. Subs, Kevin Murphy for Daire O Shea, Andy Ahern for Jason Kelly, James Hunt for Jack O Connor, Mark Reidy for Andrew O Riordan. Also Tomás Ahern, Alan Kelly, Martin Chawke, David O Connor, Tadhg Ahern, Mike Reidy, Cillian O Connor, Aiden Curry and Rory Cleary. We play our neighbours Fr Caseys, Abbeyfeale in the county 1/4 final on Thursday night Sept 26th at 8pm in Mountcollins under lights. This will be a much anticipated game which should draw a big crowd of supporters from both clubs as well as many neutrals.
