WEDDING WISHES: Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Rosaline Normile Loughill and Brian Enright Ballyhahill who were married in the Church of the Assumption Loughill on Friday August 30. The reception for family and friends was held in the Longcourt House Hotel Newcastle West. The happy couple reside in Barnigue, Carrigkerry.
LARRY WARD: The death has occurred of Laurence (Larry) Ward St Mary’s Terrace Carrigkerry at Milford Care Centre on Monday September 2. Predeceased by his father Pat. Reposing was held at his residence on Wednesday September 4 from 5-8pm. His requiem Mass was celebrated on Thursday at 11.30am followed by burial in Ardagh Cemetery. Sympathy to his wife Josephine (Née Copse), sons Liam, Larry, Darren, Cian, Adam, brothers Neilus, Patrick, grandchildren Arran, Kourtney, Bonnie- Mai, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. May he rest in Peace.
SEAN DOWNEY: The death has occurred of John (Sean ) Downey Lisgordan, Ardagh, peacefully at University Hospital Limerick on Wednesday September 4. Predeceased by his wife Teresa. Reposing was held at St Kyran’s Church Coolcappa on Friday September 8, from 6.30 to 8pm. His Requiem Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 12 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy to his daughter Sharon, son-in-law Chris, grandchildren Chris, Anthony, Marie, John Paul, Samantha, Donna, great grandchildren Kai, Arthur, brothers Dennis, Pat, Michael, sister Kathleen, sisters -in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends. May he rest in Peace.
SOCCER NEWS: The Desmond soccer season has commenced again after a two month break for the three local teams, Creeves Celtic, Carrig Celtic and Kilcolman Rovers. Creeves Celtic drew 2-2 at home with Breska Rovers in the Premier League Cup Group A on Sunday September. Donal Nolan and Eoin Mc Enery scored their goals, but they lost 5-4 on penalties. Carrig Celtic defeated Breska Rovers B 3-0 away in Division 2 League Cup Group B with goals from Sean Long, Ray Cahill and Ray Brouder. Kilcolman Rovers had no fixture.
GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s lost to Croagh/Kilfinny by 2-29 to 1-6 in the West Junior B Hurling Championship played at Newcastle West on Friday September 6. Team Mike Steele, William Steele, Billy Breen, Bryan Sheehan, Mikey Breen, James O’Connor, Kevin Meade, Edward Fitzgerald, Conor Kelly, Cathal O’Connor, Donie Nolan, Con Enright, Oisin Cummane, Liam Scanlon, Tony Doyle. St Kieran’s play Mungret/ St Paul’s in the County Senior Football Championship round 5 on Saturday September 14 at 5pm in Sean Finn Park Rathkeale.
SPLIT THE POT: Congratulations to Diarmuid Noonan who won € 500, in the August , Creeves Celtic FC Split the Pot monthly draw held at the Thatch Newbridge, on Friday September 6 . LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday September 2.The numbers drawn were 3,11,17 28, and there was no winner of the € 6,700 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each: Connie Kennelly Shanagolden, Paul Moriarty Ardagh, Alma Sullivan Skehanagh, Jamie O’Brien Ardagh, Patsy and Moira O’Donovan Ardagh. Next week’s Jackpot will be € 6,800. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated. Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.
RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Mike O’Connor Knockaderry, who won €275 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday September 6. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. GAA FUNDRAISER: St Kieran’s GAA Club are holding a Premier League Last Person Standing 2024 to commence on Saturday September 28. The entry fee is € 10, and first prize is €500. Contact members of the club committee, members of the senior football/intermediate hurling panels, or fill the online form to enter.

DANCING CLASSES: The Mc Cormack Kelly school of Irish Dancing will resume on Friday September 13, in the community centre Ardagh at 7pm, for beginners and improvers in step dancing and Céilí, followed by Sean Nos dancing from 8pm. PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIP: The 93rd National Ploughing Championship will be held for the third year in a row in Ratheniska County Laois from Tuesday September 17 to Thursday September 19. The popular three-day event attracts large crowds each day to the well positioned location in the midlands.
RAMBLING HOUSE: A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday September 19, at 8.00pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend.
CULTURE NIGHT: Culture Night 2024 will take place this year on Friday September 20. Culture Night is an annual public event in September that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts nationally. On Culture Night, arts and cultural organisations and venues open their doors later and free of charge, to allow for increased access to the public. Special and unique events will be specifically programmed at participating locations. Culture Night is always great fun and offers the perfect opportunity for us as a region to showcase the wealth of culture that Limerick has to offer. It is a night to celebrate the cultural, artistic and creative communities of our city and county by inviting existing and new audiences into our galleries, museums, workshops and studios. 742,000 people engaged with 1,700 Culture Night events in 2022. On Friday September 20, doors will open later, and special and unique events will be specifically programmed at participating locations and, thanks to the continued support of the Arts Council and Local Authorities across the island of Ireland, all activities will be available to the public free of charge. Limerick Culture Night is supported by the Arts Council in partnership with Limerick City and County Council. The details of the Limerick programme of events can be seen on social media outlets.
