U8 Hurlers

Huge well done to our u8 hurlers who played Monagea and Templeglantine in a blitz in Athea last Saturday. They have been working hard at training on their hand passing, blocking, defending and striking the last few weeks and there are huge improvements in every game that they play. Huge thanks to all their coaches who make this all happen.

Athea      4.7

St Ailbes 8.4

Hard luck to our U16s who put up a huge battle against a strong St Ailbes team in Athea on Monday night. It was end to end stuff from start to finish in a very entertaining game of football. Athea will now contest the shield semi final, time and dates to be confirmed.

Intermediate Championship Round 3

Athea 1.13
Murroe / Boher 2.10
Our ladies welcomed Murroe / Boher to Athea on Sunday evening. Playing with a strong wind in the first half Athea found themselves ahead by 3 pts.
Murroe/ Boher started the second half strongly and had the game level after 10 minutes. Athea regained their composure and finished strongly, just missing out on snatching victory with the last kick of the ball.
This draw will now set up a quarter final draw with Mungret / St Paul’s Saturday 7th September at 4.30 in Mungret.

County Premier Mens Junior Football Championship
Round 4

Athea 1-08 Feenagh/Kilmeedy 1-2
Our men’s team had a good win in Tournafulla on Saturday night, to put us in a strong position with one round to go. We played against the wind in the first half and were happy to be just behind 1-02 to 0-02 at half time. Even against the wind we had plenty of possession, but with the opposition defending in numbers, scores were hard to come by. The opposition were unlucky to lose three players with injury in that first half, which made our job a bit easier. The boys again dominated the second half, but it took a while to turn that dominance into scores. Dylan Griffin led the way from center forward with 4 points from play, with the influential Shane Mulvihill scoring 2 points and the returning Kevin Murphy getting a clever goal. The opposition got no score in this second period which is thanks to the huge work rate by all the players throughout the field. Other players to impress on the night were Calum Buckley, Eoin O Shea and Evan Curry.
A notable thing about the team this year which is bucking a national trend, is we have three players, Andy Ahern, Kevin Murphy and Brian O Connor who have made a welcome return from abroad this year, to greatly bolster our panel and our parish in general.
Team Gerard Ahern, Eoin Sheahan, Calum Buckley, Tommy Quaid, Andy Ahern, Alan Kelly, Micheal Dalton, Eoin O Shea, Evan Curry(0-01), Shane Mulvihill(0-02), Dylan Griffin(0-04), Jack O Connor, T.J. Hunt, Andrew O Riordan, Brian O Connor, Subs, Kevin Murphy(1-0), Daire O Shea(0-01), Mark Reidy, James Hunt, Martin Chawke, David O Connor, Tomás Ahern, Tadhg Ahern, Cillian O Connor, Rory Cleary, Aiden Curry.
The final round is against championship favourites Cappagh in 3 weeks time with a possible semi final or quarter final place up for grabs.
