 WELL DONE IRELAND

Well this evening as I e-mail my few lines the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games  will shortly take place and wasn’t it a wonderful couple of weeks of sporting celebrations,  especially for our little island. No doubt everyone was glued and cheering on our wonderful athletes who did themselves and their country so proud. One wonders at the amount of time and hard grafting they have to deal with in preparation for huge events like this .No doubt their homecoming will be a huge affair, they being brilliant ROLE -MODELS for our young people .

This Thursday evening at the Blessed Well in Templeathea a special Mass will be celebrated it being the Feast of The Assumption, August 15th and the 110th anniversary of The Well dedication. It takes place at 7 pm, all are welcome.

Sincere Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of the late John O’Connell of Gortnagross who went to his Eternal Reward since our last newsletter. He was a true gentleman and had reached a great age with many paying their Final Respects at the Family Home. He was laid to rest in Holy Cross following Requiem Mass. May he rest in Eternal Peace.

Congrats to Marion and Jeremiah O Connor of Upper Athea who recently celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss, their Golden Wedding Anniversary along with their family and relatives at the Ballygarry Hotel in Tralee. Wishing them many more years of health and happiness. Here’s to the 60th.

Congrats also to Ryan Carroll who celebrated his 30th Birthday along with his family and friends at The River Lee Hotel in Cork recently with everyone having a very enjoyable time.

On August 30th there will be a 50th class reunion of the class of 1974  from the Convent in Abbeyfeale Girls’ School. You are asked to spread the word  as no doubt it will be a very special night at The Winners Circle.

Athea Tidy Towns are Going For Gold again this year ,and everyone is asked to please put in their vote for our idyllic little Village .You are urged to please try and keep it Tidy and put the litter in the bins provided. Also it’s no harm if people would help to pull a few weeds here and there when passing. It’s all a good help to the Tidy Towns Committee ,after all its OUR VILLAGE.

Congrats to Domhnall who received his well deserved Comhaltas Award at the All Ireland Fleadh in Wexford, no better man on the Accordion.
