The Kilkenny-headquartered co-op, Tirlán, today (Thursday, June 20) confirmed that 150 jobs are likely to go across the organisation as a result of a new “cost reduction programme”.
The president of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA), Denis Drennan, warned that this could be “just the beginning of a massive restructuring” of the dairy sector which he said is due to “Government policy”.

JOHN MORIARTY: In the year before John Moriarty’s death in 2007, Maurice O’Keeffe from Irish Life and Lore recorded 3 interviews with him. Given that they were recorded so close to his death, so much of John’s wisdom was distilled into these interviews. I reached out to Maurice to release the recordings freely available and he agreed to make a podcast with highlights from the 3 interviews.
The 3 original full interviews are available for purchase at https://www.irishlifeandlore.

DEATH in Australia 1915; Mrs Julia, relict of the late Mr Daniel Kenneally, died at Goomalibee on Saturday, at the ripe age of about 80 years. non-profit group called the Environmental Investigation Agency has captured on video using infrared cameras and HFC detectors in U.S. grocery stores. It also measured levels of HFCs in the store using chemical detectors.
It detected leaks at 55 per cent of the dozens of U.S. stores where it took measurements. On average, it found a single supermarket emits 875 pounds (400 kilograms) of HFCs a year, equivalent to carbon emissions from 300 cars. In the U.S. alone, it calculated supermarket HFC leaks cause as much global warming as burning 22 million tonnes of coal.

END of LIFE: Providing compassionate care at the end of life. To address the sensitive issue of compassionate care at the end of life, and in response to the need to inform the faithful of Catholic teaching on this important life issue that affects so many families, the Bishops of Ireland have published the pastoral letter: Freedom to Live Fully, Until Death Comes. The key message asserts that every person possesses inherent, infinite dignity that remains intact regardless of their circumstances. In this context, bishops strongly oppose the Oireachtas Committee’s proposal to Government to legislate for assisted suicide, and call on support for healthcare workers who uphold the sanctity of life. Copies of the statement will be on the diocesan website
