They led by 2-5 to 0-2 at half time and ran out impressive winners. John Doyle was a member of the Limerick football masters team defeated by Cork by 0-18 to 0-12 in the Round Robin series, played at Mitchelstown on Saturday June 22. Tony Doyle has been selected on the Limerick Masters hurling panel who will be contesting the All-Ireland series.
COMMUNITY GAMES: St Kieran’s members continue to do well in the various community games events held in recent weeks. Well done to all the competitors, coaches, volunteers and parents involved.
AWARDS NIGHT: Creeves Celtic have announced their 2023/24 award winners as follows. Men’s players player of the year: Kevin Mee. Managers player of the year: Anthony Mullins. CLUB DRAW: The Limerick GAA Club draw for June was held on Saturday June 29 and announced during the Limerick Live 95fm sports show from 10am to 11am. Congratulations to Caroline Geoghegan from the St Kieran’s club who won € 200. The entry fee for the draw is € 10, per month and € 21,000 will be given out in prize money each month. To join contact the local St Kieran’s club members in person, or online through the Club force App with direct options available. The club will receive 50% of all membership received which is vital for the running of it over the year.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday June 24.The numbers drawn were 11, 19,25,27 , and there was no winner of the € 5,700 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each: Helen Byrnes Ardagh, Marie O’Connor The Commons Ardagh, Nora Cronin Ardagh, Erin Hennessy Carrigkerry, Tommy Mullins Ardagh. Next week’s Jackpot will be € 5,800. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated. Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.
RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Jim Langan who won € 225 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday June 28. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. DEMESNE WALK: A walk is held each Tuesday at 11am from the entrance to the Demesne in Newcastle West. The Demesne presents an ideal location with many different paths to travel and enjoy. Call Maureen at 087-9845102 for more details.
SEISIÚN NIGHTS: The very enjoyable Summer Seisiún Shows will be held throughout Ireland during July and August. The Freemount Show commences on Wednesday July 3, at 8pm in Freemount Heritage Centre. It is a fundraiser for the Carol Liston -O’Connor and Family Fund Broadford and all proceeds will go towards the fund. Tea and treats will be served at the interval. Templeglantine Comhaltas Branch will host the Limerick two hour show at the Devon Inn Hotel on Thursday nights commencing on July 4, at 8.30pm, up to mid-August. A night of music, story, song and dance is presented by members of the Templeglantine Comhaltas branch and guests. Visitors and locals can enjoy a great night’s entertainment and they can participate if they wish in the second half of the proceedings. All are welcome at both venues and a great night’s entertainment is promised.
RAMBLING HOUSE: A rambling house will be held at Jim’s Newbridge on Friday July 5, at 8.00pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend.
GARDEN FETE: The annual Rathfredagh Garden Fete will be held on Sunday July 7. The committee are asking people for donations of second-hand goods for the bric-a-brac and other stalls. Items can include jewellery, handbags, shoes, books, soft toys, CDs, DVDs, ornaments, household goods, etc. The items can be dropped off at Rathfredagh Cheshire Home.
WILLIE CLANCY WEEK: The Willie Clancy Summer School is held each July in Milltown Malbay in West Clare. For one week the town and surrounding area plays host to thousands of musicians, singers and dancers from all parts of the world. From early until late an overflow of people throng the workshops, pubs, halls and spill out onto the streets for outdoor entertainment. Many people take their yearly holidays to coincide with the festival and stay in local accommodation. The festival attracts a large following from Limerick interested in traditional music song and dance. Willie was a musician who played the Uileann pipes, Irish flute and tin whistle. He is buried in the local Ballard cemetery and his statue can be seen on the main street. On Sunday July 7, Taylors Cross Céilí Band will be playing in the Mill Marquee from 9.30pm. Admission € 10 and a great night of set dancing promised.
BALLYHAHILL SCHOOL: The 150th anniversary of Ballyhahill N.S. will be celebrated on the weekend of July 12 to 14. A weekend of celebration and music is planned for this milestone. The committee would appreciate photos, pupils’ names, class lists, memorabilia memories etc. See their Facebook page Ballyhahill N.S., 150th Anniversary.
