AWARDS: The Old Mill Ladies football club awards for 2023 were presented recently to Hazel Horgan senior young player of the year and Erin Hennessy senior player of the year. The trophies were sponsored by Cowper’s Jewellers. Congratulations and best wishes to both ladies in the future.

SOCCER NEWS: Carrig Celtic lost 5-1 to Feenagh in the final of the Richard Hogan Cup played at Mick Hanley Park Askeaton on Saturday July 6. Kieran O’Connor scored the goal, and the team was Declan Greaney, Seanie O’Dwyer, John Byrnes, Pa Brouder, Anthony Molyneaux, Ray Brouder, Eoin King, Brian Foley, Kieran O’Connor, Seanie King, Jack O’Sullivan. Subs, Jordan Ryan, Eoin Liston, Mickey Long, Stephen Kelly, Dan Duggan, Oisin Hanrahan, Anthony Liston. Carrig Celtic will play in Division 2 next season.

GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s defeated  Cappamore by 0-19 to 1-6 in Round 1 of Group 2 of the County Minor B Hurling Championship played  at Coolcappa on Wednesday July 10. They led by 0-11 to 1-3 at half time.  St Kieran’s drew with Knockaderry 0-8 apiece in Round 2 of the West Junior B Football Championship.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday July 8.The numbers drawn were  1,9,20,27, and  there was no  winner of the € 5,900 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received  € 40 each: Caroline Harnett Ardagh, Tom Galvin Ardagh, Holly, Joe, Adam and William Steele Newcastle West. Mike O’Mara Coolcappa, Angela Enright Ardagh. Next week’s  Jackpot will be € 6,000. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.  Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Michael O’Connor , who won € 260 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday July 12. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry,  and from the radio station.  All support will be appreciated. SEISIÚN NIGHTS: The very enjoyable  Summer Seisiún Shows will be held throughout Ireland during July and August.  The Freemount  Show takes place on Wednesday’s  from 8pm, with special guests joining the resident musicians.  Tea and treats will be served at the interval. Templeglantine  Comhaltas Branch will host the Limerick  two hour show at the Devon Inn Hotel on Thursday nights  at 8.30pm. A night of music, story, song and dance is presented by members of the Templeglantine Comhaltas branch and guests. Visitors and locals can enjoy a great night’s entertainment and  they can participate if they wish in the second half of the proceedings.  All are welcome  at both venues and a great night’s entertainment is promised.

FOYNES MUSEUM:  The Foynes Flying Boat Museum is open 7 days a week, Monday to Sunday 10am to 5.30pm. The last admission is 4.30pm. The restaurant is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm. It’s a great place to visit with so much history on show.

ARDNACRUSHA TOUR:  Guided tours of Ardnacrusha Power Station are open the public from July to September, on Weekdays only. Upwards of 30 people can be accommodated on the tour which take approximately 90 minutes. It was Ireland’s first national Hydro-electric station, and it attracts large crowds for the tour.

RADIO AGM: West Limerick 102 community Radio will hold their Annual General Meeting in the Longcourt Hotel Newcastle West on Tuesday July 23 at 7.30pm. All community and voluntary organisations in the West Limerick area are asked to send a representative to represent them. All who are interested in its future are asked to attend and a number of positions on the board are to be filled.  All are welcome to attend and become involved in the station that provides so much enjoyment to the listeners.

LYREACROMPANE FESTIVAL: The annual Dan Paddy Andy  festival celebrating its 26th anniversary will take place in Lyreacrompane  north Kerry over the August weekend  from Friday 2 to Monday 4.  The Sean Keane concert  with support artists, will be held in the marquee on Friday 2 from 9pm.Tickets cost €30. A Honda 50 run  at 12 noon on Saturday. A kid’s party club from 1.30pm. Dancing to Seamus Moore from 4-6pm, Admission € 12. Dancing to Paudie Mc Auliffe from 10pm to 1am, Admission €12. A 5/10k walk  will be held on Sunday from 11am, Dancing to Eddie Lee and the Coffey’s from 3-6pm, with a waltzing competition for trophies. More dancing from 9.30pm with Ger Healy followed by Jack Keogh from Wicklow, Admission € 15. A  guided bog walk on Monday from 11am, turf cutting, tea and scones, Adults € 10, children €5. Dancing from 2pm to 7pm with Mike Condon followed by Bernie Heaney Kildare, Admission € 15. Cash only entry to events and no card facility available. VINTAGE DAY: Carrigkerry Playground and Sensory Park  fundraising vintage run and family Day will take place on Sunday August 4. Registration at 12.30pm at Moore’s Bar Carrigkerry. All tractors, cars and motorbikes are welcome to participate. A children’s vehicle run will be held at 1pm. Lines are currently on sale at € 5 for a raffle with 8 prizes on offer. 1st  prize: Overnight stay, dinner, breakfast at the Woodlands Hotel for two people. 2nd prize: XBOX Series S.  3rd prize: Two tons of ash firewood (Con Keane). 4th  prize: € 100 Black Diamond Photography. 5th prize: Brouder and Murphy fitted kitchens. 6th prize: ”Green Finger” Fencing and Tunnels € 100.  7th prize: M and K Interiors. 8th prize: € 50 Lisa Daly Voucher. The draw will take place in Moore’s Bar later that evening. There will be a family fun day also, plus  Disco and BBQ and live music in the bar. All support appreciated.

CEMETERY MASSES DATES: Mass will be celebrated, at, Borrigone Well on Thursday August 15, at 3pm, Coolcappa August 15, at 7.30pm, Clonagh Cemetery  on Sunday September 8, at 2pm.

GLENVILLE HOUSE:  Glenville House and Gardens Ardagh  will be open to the public during Heritage Week   from Saturday August 17 to Sunday August 25, inclusive, Tuesday to Saturday from 9-30am to 1-30pm. Admission € 5, Students €3, children and old age pensioners are free.  The house is located a mile from Ardagh on the Kilcolman road and is well worth a visit.

GLIN Castle: Tours of Glin Castle and Gardens will be held on Sunday August 25, from 12 noon to 6pm. Tickets can be bought at the entrance gate for € 10. Refreshments will be available; a raffle will take place, and all are welcome to attend.
