The Abha Bhán Players wish to sympathise with our Director Eleanor McSweeney on the recent death of her mother Jose O’Sullivan of Kinsale Road, Cork. During the past few years Eleanor was very much involved in the care of her mother who used to come to our plays all the way from Cork. We are keeping all of Eleanor’s family, Terence, Rachel, Colm, Laoise and Orlaith in our thoughts. They are all involved in our drama group except Colm. May Jose rest in peace.

It is hard to believe that a year has passed since Marian Cummane passed away. Her anniversary Mass is being held in Ballyhahill this Friday night at 7.30pm. Marian is very much missed by all in the area.

We all have enjoyed a few lovely days recently and a lot of farm work got done but I read today that a cold spell is coming with the risk of frost! In June! We are all in need of a long spell of good weather so we will keep hoping for the best. Jim’s sister is doing the Camino to Santiago de Compostela at the moment. Walking under sun and 27 degrees heat every day. That might be too much for me though!

I wrote this little poem during the week for one of my grandchildren who is on the Autism spectrum. She is lucky to have her own pony Sunny.

I don’t like people but I like ponies

My grand-daughter told me one day

Ponies make me happy

And with them I want to play.

People ask me questions

And this can annoy me

But ponies let me be myself

With them I can feel free.

Each morning I wake early

And run out to the stable

So I can have some time with them

And for school then I am able.

If  Mom and Dad would let me

I’d stay at home all day

I’d never want to go to school

With the ponies I would play.

But that is not an option

So I’ll do what I have to do

I’ll paint a smile upon my face

Til I can finish school.

And then I will be famous

Watch out and you will see

I’ll be the best in the whole world

Riding and feeling free.
