OUT AND ABOUT

First of all im sure everyone will join with me in congratulating Paul Collins of  COLLINS  XL here in Athea, who was awarded LIMERICKS LEO GREEN-SUSTAINABILITY AWARD recently at the Local Enterprise Office in Limerick. Paul was presented with the award at the recent National Enterprise Awards Co Final. As we all agree it’s so good to have a shop here in our little village and everyone agrees we would be lost without it, being a 2nd generation shop with Paul’s grandparents Mary and Jimmy Collins having their business there in years gone by. W e wish Paul continued success and know that we will never be without the necessities .

Another Congrats to Catriona Shine daughter of Margaret and Mike of Upper Athea and OSLO, whose debut novel HABITAT was launched recently and has received great reviews. Well done to one of our own and continued success to Catriona on her literary journey.

On this Wednesday evening a further Scripture Reflection will be held at Athea Library at 7.30-8.30 followed by a cuppa and a chat presented by Pat Higgins and Sean O Mochain. All are welcome.  This weeks talk will be The Book of Prophets.

Have you ever heard of  SPEECH FASTING. I was listening the other day as someone spoke on the topic which I hadn’t heard of before. I had heard of sweets fasting alright. Anyway it’s to do with the sound of silence and how nice it is to not talk on occasion as one stays in one’s own space with one’s own thoughts now and again. As we all realise I’m sure beeping phones, texts coming in  and a whole lot more have taken over our lives and its meant to be good for us all to close our eyes now and again, listen to the birds and the sounds around us and remember the saying—Silence Is Golden.

The Big Charity Replay Game on this Saturday at the GAA pitch between Drom Broadford and Athea Team of 2003 should be more than exciting with big crowds expected to support Carol O’Connor and her family. Hopefully at the end of the day that there will be no injuries on any side. May the best team win and remember

Believe in yourself

You are braver than you think

and more talented than you realise—-

And capable of More than you can imagine.
