It was lovely to hear George Langan back on Cork Music Station on last Saturday night. He has been missing since December 23rd due to the bereavement of his brother Patrick followed by a severe dose of the flu. He has had a hard few weeks so we send him all our good wishes.

Rebecca Long, Chiropodist, will hold a clinic in Cloverfield Day Care centre on April 8th. She had a very busy day on Monday 12th and will return again April 8. Ring 068 26033 if interested in making an appointment. It is great to have one nice and near home.

There is always a welcome for people who would be interested in being involved in drama or for those who prefer to work backstage. We can’t have too many as there is much work to be done in preparation for the performance so you will be very welcome and it’s great fun also. A big welcome to Eimhin O’Brien, Listowel who has joined us very recently and fitting in nicely.

The play “A Tomb with a View” written by Norman Robbins will be staged in Ballyhahill Hall on four nights in April – 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th so keep those dates in mind. Tickets will be available later. This play, very different to our previous ones, is a 3 act play set in a sinister old library presided over by a portrait of a grim-faced, mad-eyed, old man. There, a dusty lawyer reads a will to an equally sinister family, one member of which has werewolf tendencies, another wanders around in a toga of Julius Caesar and a third member is a gentle old lady who plants more than seeds in her flower beds. All is revealed as the plot twists and turns to its surprising conclusion. You will enjoy it.

The drama players would like to send sincere sympathies to cast member Jayne Daly and fiance James Gibbons on the recent death of Vinnie Gibbons, Co. Mayo, father to James.

Of course we look forward to the Athea Drama in March.

Lent starts this week. It doesn’t have the same reaction with people as it used to have when people took it more seriously and observed the fasting rules. However science has proved that fasting periodically is good for the body and our general health so if not for religious reasons it may do no harm to cut back for health reasons. But it is easier said than done, I’m afraid.
