MOYVANE: John Cummings. One thing he’s sure of is his paternal grandmother, Mary Power, who emigrated from NewtownSandes (Moyvane), Co. Kerry in 1921 at the age of 16. She ended up being a single mother raising three children – Cummings’ father and two younger sisters – during the Great Depression. Republican candidate for the 14th District, John Cummings.
“My grandfather basically disappeared. She was a huge influence on us, a really great woman. We were very aware of our Irish heritage because of her. St. Patrick’s Day was always big in our house. We would watch the parade coverage on TV with Jack McCarthy and waited for the Kerry contingent to march by.”
Cummings’ father Charles was a member of the NYPD and his son took the same path, joining the force in 1983 and stationed in the Bronx before a knee injury forced his retirement eight years later. Afterward, he completed his undergrad degree at Fordham University, and in 1989 he started teaching at his old school, St. Raymond’s, where he’s happily been ever since.

Dennis Fenton (November 20, 1888 – March 29, 1954) was an American sport shooter and Olympic champion.[1] He was born in Ventry, Ireland, and died in San Diego, California.
In 1920 he won three gold and one bronze medal. He also participated in the 300 metre free rifle, three positions but his final placing is unknown. Four years later he won again a bronze medal. In the 1924 Summer Olympics he also participated in the following events:[

Industrial Emissions Directive
While the compromise excludes cattle farms for now, they may come within its scope at a later date.
The agreement requires the commission to undertake a review of how emissions from cattle farms should addressed.
This review will take place before December 31, 2026. The possibility remains open that cattle farms may be included in the IED sometime after that review, though it is understood that a fresh legislative proposal would be required from the commission to do so.

New type of farmer
“We are committed to 100% chemical-free farming. This means no chemicals on the land, in the animals’ food, or in medication,” he said.
“We implemented our plan at Fior Bhia by using the labour unit of the pigs, cattle and poultry controlled by electric fences to prune, root and poach the forest floor incorporating 33 years of wild overgrowth.
“This allowed new light into the soil, allowing native grasses and herbs to grow in abundance. The trees provide natural shelter for the animals from harsh winter weather to hot summer days,” he added.

But this was obviously without counting on a boost from technology which allowed scientists to recreate in every detail the face of a man who died in 1361 during the Battle of Visby in Sweden, one of the wildest of Europe.

REFUGEES: Ms Humphreys said her department had provided €7.8m in supports and grants to Roscrea in recent years. She said migrant workers, in key sectors of health, hospitality, food processing and other sectors had paid €3bn in PRSI last year, and €17bn over three years, to help fund pensions and other welfare payments.
“You’d wonder how some people can be at protests in the middle of the day when other people are working. So, we have had to announce more work permits recently because we can’t get the staff in certain sectors,” Ms Humphreys added.
Ms Humphreys said the Government had been responding to an emergency situation following the Russian invasion in Ukraine which brought over 100,000 refugees from there to Ireland.

RIC: Over 90,000 Irish people served in the RIC. Mostly Catholic although the senior ranks were mostly but not exclusively Protestants.The pay was not great but the pension arrangement suited a lot of men who could retire early maybe from theri lump sum buy a farm or a business. Men were allowed to go out with a girl after 5 years service and marry after 7 years.
The personnel files before photography contained a sketch letter of recommendation, family background and confirman from a priest or minister of birth, Prior to marriage the bride’s famu was checked out. After independence more the 90,000 personnel files were removed to Ealing in West London. They were used to deal with pension queries and all but 4 were shredded in 1938.
