MOYVANE GAA Tribute; It is with heavy hearts that we share of the passing of our valued clubman and friend Teddy Keane. Teddy had a long playing career with Moyvane during in which time he won a County Junior Championship in 1982 along with a Senior North Kerry Championship medal in 1983. Teddy was also our club referee, a role which he performed with great distinction. His greatest accolade was in administration. He served in many roles over the years including chairman, secretary, treasurer and pro of our club. He was also the first pro of the North Kerry football Board.

To the present day Teddy continued to be an active fundraiser for the club and overall an outstanding clubman who was always available to help out his club in any capacity.

Henry Kissinger, who died Wednesday at the age of 100.

Readers of this Catholic publication might wonder if Kissinger’s policies had some type of impact that related particularly to Catholics and their concerns. The answer is absolutely Yes, perhaps even unintentionally. For Kissinger, this happened through the policy of détente, of which he was the proponent and architect through the Republican administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. That détente mindset was also picked up by Democratic President Jimmy Carter. It was ultimately rejected by President Ronald Reagan.

During the Cold War, détente was an accommodationist form of foreign policy. That bipartisan 1970s policy — again, of Nixon, Ford and Carter — accepted not only the ongoing existence of the Soviet Union but also the Kremlin’s continued dominance of Eastern Europe. It acquiesced to Soviet control of lands from Eastern Europe to the easternmost regions of the USSR itself.

To Ronald Reagan, this was craven accommodation, pure and simple, “selling down the river” Eastern Europeans, and many others, simply so Uncle Sam could “get along” with those peoples’ masters in the Kremlin. Reagan in October 1964 warned that we should not engage “in a conspiracy of silence and never open our mouths about the millions of people enslaved in the Soviet colonies in the satellite nations.” He candidly stated:

CATTLE: UK studies have confirmed that reducing the average age at slaughter from the current figure of 28 months to one below 20 months could halve total emission values for the UK’s entire beef sector.———————–—-

The exclusion of cattle farms from new EU rules governing emissions from industrial installations has been welcomed by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA).

Pat McCormack, president of the ICMSA, welcomed the measure and said that the comparisons between family farms and industrial installations had been more about “anti-farming ideology than any kind of logical comparison”.

Paul Kengor Commentaries

December 4, 2023

Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, died Dec. 1 at age 93. For pro-life Catholics, her appointment by President Ronald Reagan was a grave mistake. Though O’Connor generally was considered a court “moderate,” she was a decisive swing vote in favor of preserving so-called “abortion rights,” including the outrageous January 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, a judicial abomination with no basis whatsoever in the U.S. Constitution.

EMISSIONS: overall GHG emissions are expected to decline this year across all farm systems – measured on a whole farm or per hectare basis.

Why is this likely to happen? According to Dr Cathal Buckley, Teagasc Rural Economy and Development Programme, it is chiefly because there is likely to be an overall reduction in livestock numbers and reduced chemical Nitrogen (N) fertiliser use in 2023.

GHG emissions fell across dairy, cattle, sheep and tillage in 2022 and Dr Buckley expects this will continue this year.

DAIRY Waste to feed fly larvae; As a result of successful trials, ENORM is opening a new facility in Flemming and Denmark, and will then aim for full-scale production.

The amount of DLP supplied to ENORM will increase to 15 truckloads a week from early 2024.

When the new facility is up and running, it will be able to produce 100t of larvae daily. This will be enough for more than 10,000t of insect meal.

Black soldier fly larvae are high in protein and fat for animal feed, but also offer potential as a source of protein for humans, according to Arla Foods.

REFLECTION: There are many people for whom hate and rage pay a higher dividend of immediate satisfaction than love. – Aldous Huxley, The Devils of Loudon.

Are you struggling to let go of anger and resentment?

On a recent episode of “The Catholic Gentleman,” John Heinen, Sam Guzman, and Devin Schadt shed light on the chains of unforgiveness, offering a path to mercy and reconciliation!

1. Recognize the Control of Unresolved Anger

John says when “anger is controlling you… it seeps into your relationship with family, friends, your children, your spouse” and leads to a state of emotional bondage.

HEALTH: Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ)  report revealed that Canada has fewer physicians per capita and spends the least of its total health budget on primary care.

The report also found that Canada has a relatively high rate of maternal and infant mortality.

In contrast, every resident is automatically assigned a family doctor in Norway. The Netherlands offers 24-hour daily access to primary care through various after-hours care programs. In Britain, every newborn has to be registered with a local medical practice within six weeks of birth.

Data compiled by Statistics Canada in 2021 shows that 14.4% of Canadians lack a regular health care provider.

LACE: Maude Kearney (1873-1963) was one of the greatest figures in the history of Limerick lace.

In 1904, she opened her lacemaking business in Limerick, revitalising the art of Limerick lacemaking. Maude was a Renaissance woman in the truest sense, and this exhibition celebrates her lasting legacy, fifteen decades after her birth.

Earlier this year, Grania McElligott agreed to donate her grandmother’s historic lace collection to Limerick Museum.
