IT’S ON THE WAY

I’m just thinking as I start to email my few lines this Monday evening that tonight 5 weeks Xmas Day will be nearly over. Everyone seems to think the same this year that it has come upon us so quickly .I wonder is it because having had Covid for 2 years time seemed so slow going. And of course all kids will be super excited this Friday night along with their parents no doubt as we all tune in to the famous Late Late Toy Show which is watched, I may add, in many countries. And I must say I do like the advert with Patrick Kielty and the children on RTE these days. I suppose we all become children at heart on these occasions -enjoy it whatever your age..

Sincere congrats to Joseph Vaughan, Templeathea son of Joe and the late Ita, who on Saturday last married Sinead Galvin in Duagh Church. It was off to Ballyseede Castle in Tralee then where a great day was enjoyed by family and friends. Wishing them all the very best for the future.

The Athea Going Strong Xmas Party will be held on December 6th in the hall with everyone welcome. Please ring for your place to Mairead Langan on 087-6407026 or Eibhlish Geoghegan on 087-9065042 or at the credit union. Payment of 20 euro will be taken on the day at the hall. There will be mass at 12 o clock and Xmas dinner to follow with dancing, a raffle and afternoon tea.

Step To The Beat continues every Thursday night at the walking track at the pitch from 7-8 with music over the loudspeakers all are welcome.

Sympathy is extended to Dick Sheehy and his family, of Hillside Drive, on the sudden passing of his brother John, Mail Rd, Listowel, His remains are reposing at Lyons’ Funeral Home this Tuesday evening with Requiem Mass on Wednesday in Listowel Church followed by burial in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane. May the light of Heaven be his.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday saw big crowds going to pay their respects to the family of the late Anne O’Keeffe at her home in Upper Athea.  Anne was involved in many voluntary organisations in the parish and beyond from St. Josephs Young Priests Society to the annual Coffee Morning in aid of Milford Hospice to church gate collections for St. Ita’s Hospital and Concern and many others. Testament to her dedication was seen at her Requiem Mass on Thursday here in Athea Church which was packed to capacity with 10 priests on the altar remembering Anne. She attended Mass with her devoted husband Tom on every occasion. Burial in Holy Cross followed her Mass as she was laid to rest. Sincere sympathy to her husband Tom, daughters Jean and Elaine and sons Gary and Kevin. May her willing and kind soul rest in peace.

Congrats and well done to James Hunt, Coole West, Callum Buckley, Templeathea and Evan Curry, Lower Dirreen who travelled along with their parents on Sunday last  to The Woodlands Hotel in Adare, where they were presented with their Limerick Minor medals. Well done to them all.  Here’s to their future on the football pitch

A good thing to help with Alzheimer’s  they say is to walk backwards. Whatever it does to one’s brain it’s said it’s good for one’s memory so if you see people walking backwards at the GAA Track you know what its all about, at least its safe there to do so whatever about doing it on the roads.
