MADGE MAUME: The death has taken place of Madge Maume (nee Flynn) Formerly of Glenastar, Ardagh, Co. Limerick and 16 Ockelford Avenue, Chelmsford, Essex, England CM1 2AP,  peacefully at home on October 15, 2023. She was aged 96 years old and in the loving care of her daughters Mary and Kathleen. Predeceased by her loving husband Pat. Her funeral  took place on Thursday  November 9, at 12.30pm at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Church, Chelmsford. Sympathy to her daughters Mary, Kathleen,  grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Patie (Galway), nieces, nephews and cousins and all the relations around the locality. May she rest In Peace.

HOSPICE THANKS: The Sisters of the Little Company  of Mary, together with Milford Hospice  Friends wish to thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously towards the Church gate collection taken up before  Masses at Ardagh, Carrigkerry on Saturday/ Sunday November 4/5. The amount collected was € 349.50 in Ardagh and € 357.65 in Carrigkerry. A special thank you to the collectors who gave so willingly of their time to stand at the tables.

GOING FOR GOLD: The Going for Gold competition is sponsored by the JP McManus Charitable Foundation and has a total prize pool of €60,000 across all categories and is organised by Limerick City and County Council. The event was held at Limerick Strand Hotel  and several communities throughout the county received prizes as a reward for the work they have done and continue to do so. Carrigkerry  village development received € 500 to go towards the construction of two  new flower beds on the Ardagh approach road.

CALENDARS: The St. Kieran’s Heritage Association 2024 Calendar launched last June is available locally and costs € 5. The calendar has a photo of the Ardagh Chalice on the front cover and a photo of the Smith O’Brien Mausoleum in Rathronan on the back.  The monthly photographs feature groups  from past times, from the Ardagh, Carrigkerry, Coolcappa, Kilcolman, Ballyine areas. It is a nice keepsake for locals and indeed people who are living away from the locality. The Loughill Calendar 24 is also for sale, costing  € 10, at Paddy O’Rourke’s Shop Ballyhahill or from [email protected].  It is a collection of photographs that will take people back in time to the premises and natives of the picturesque village in times past.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday November 6.The numbers drawn were 8,9,25,30, and  there was  no  winner of the € 15,300 Jackpot. Congratulations to Tommy Greaney, Kilcolman/Milford, who won the € 500 Holiday Voucher to mark 30 years of the Lottery. Congratulations  to the five lucky dip winners who received  € 40 each:  May Gallagher Ardagh, Mikey Greaney Kilcolman, May Gallagher Ardagh, Patrick Molyneaux Askeaton, Teresa Hassett c/o Greaney’s.  Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be € 15,400. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.  Both organizations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Carrie Hourigan, who won € 285, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday November 10.The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. The station can be contacted at 069-66200 if people have news of interest to the West Limerick area.

RAMBLING HOUSE: A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday November 15, at 8.00pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend. Ita’s Rambling House will be held at the Desmond Complex on Friday November 18, at 7.30pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend.

WIND FARM FUND: The Tournafulla, Rathcahill, Dromada, and Athea wind farms in West Limerick and Lenamore wind farm in North Kerry community funding is open for community projects at present. Applications are welcome from local community groups and not for profit organisations located within 20 kilometres of the wind farms, with priority given to groups within 5 kilometres. COMMUNITY GAMES: St. Kieran’s Community Games AGM will take place on Friday 17, November at 8pm in Coolcappa Hall. The officers wish to continue to facilitate kids in the community participating in as many events as possible. In order to do this, they need a strong committee. If you are interested in helping out, come along to the AGM. It would be great to have new faces join the committee.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: The Hayes family Christmas Lights Display Shanagolden ( Eircode V94NC3F ) will switch on their Winter Wonderland  for charity on Sunday November 19. This year, they will have special guests (Róisín Ambrose and Aaron Gillane) on the night to bring you the magic to your eyes. Yes, the display will be a lot bigger once again.  They will have new charities to add this year to their display, St. Gabriel’s Foundation, Midwestern Cancer Center, Cliona’s Foundation and Milford Care Centre. Noonan’s Christmas Lights Templeglantine will also also be switched on Sunday November 19. The charities to benefit this year will be Milford Care Centre Limerick, Recovery Haven Tralee, Limerick Suicide Watch and Slí Eile Churchtown Cork.

HISTORY TALK: Kenry Historical Society are holding their 2nd annual lecture in honour of Br John Feheney’s contribution  to local history. It will be held in Pallaskenry Community Centre  on Wednesday November 22 at 8.30pm, admission is free, and all are welcome. Liam Irwin will discuss the contribution of another Limerick historian Thomas Johnson Westropp of Attyflin Patrickswell.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: The Coolcappa Christmas Bazaar will be held on Sunday November 26, in Coolcappa Community Hall, (V42HF60) starting at 12 noon. The annual sale of work will include stalls selling  art and crafts, homemade cakes, food etc. The wheel of fortune will operate raffle for lots of prizes and Santa will pay a visit.

CRAFT FAIR: A Craft fair will be held in Ballyhahill Hall on Sunday November 26, from 1pm. Tables can be booked by contacting  Secretary Mary Stanley on 087-1463208.

SET CÉILÍ: A set Céilí will be held in Ardagh Parish Hall (V42F864)  on Sunday November 26,  from 3-6pm. Music by Donie Nolan Band, tea served, raffle/spot prizes and admission is € 10. The Céilí is in aid of St Kieran’s New Field Development Fund and is organised by the Fr Ted Oskar Team. The day will feature mainly sets, and a mix of social with waltz, Siege of Ennis, slosh, 2 hands etc. All support from the locality and outside areas will be greatly appreciated.

CEOL AN GHEIMHRIDH: The Resource Centre and  Gerald Griffin’s National School Loughill are the venues for this year’s Limerick Ceol an Gheimhridh Competition on Sunday November 26. The events are confined to Comhaltas members and include music, song, dance, recitation, storytelling etc.

OLD MILL LADIES: The Old Mill Ladies Football  club are still accepting a range of used clothes in their orange bin located beside their clubhouse. Their club AGM has been fixed for Tuesday November 28 at the Clubhouse and all are welcome.

IRISH RAMBLING HOUSE: The Irish Rambling House  are holding their annual concert in Siamsa Tire Tralee on Wednesday November 29, at 8pm. The three-hour show will feature the cast members plus special guests Sean O’Sé,  Elle Marie O ‘Dwyer, Caroline O’Callaghan, John Kinsella, Sonny Egan, Noel Joyce, Breens.
