I’m sorry I had no notes last week – my internet went on the blink and we have got to the stage where we can do nothing without internet. Twas too late to post notes!
I was sad to hear that Theresa Holt nee O’Connor from Turarree died in Australia where she had been living for many years. Theresa was only in her 50’s but was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Sympathies to her brothers Tom and Patrick and sisters Mary and Joan and all extended
family.
Sad too to hear that Johnny Enright from Glin was killed in a car accident last week. Johnny, a County council worker, would always call into Glin Library for a chat when I worked there. He was well liked around the town and was a regular in the Taste Cafe also. May he rest in peace.
Personally I think of Phil Naughton, late of Duagh parish who was buried recently. Phil, aged 86, was a lovely lady and an aunt and godmother to Jim Prendeville. She lived in England for some years before setting up home in Ballymacjordan, Abbeyfeale. May she rest in peace with her beloved husband who had gone before her.
Congratulations to Bridie Lynch, Glenagragra, who celebrated her 80th birthday in Brown Joes last Saturday night with family and friends. Bridie sent home a bit of her birthday cake to Jim Prendeville, her taximan one time.
Eigse Michael Hartnett was celebrated last weekend in Newcasltewest. I have missed a few years of it but managed two events this year which I enjoyed very much. Michael Harding on Friday afternoon was a tonic and so entertaining with his songs and stories. I envy people who can talk at ease and lose their train of thought but not get excited and just carry on to a different story and maybe come back to the forgotten one again at their ease. A talented man. On Sunday I listened in to the Scribblers group reading poetry and
prose. This is a group of writers who get together once a month or so to encourage each other and inspire each other. It was all lovely. Well done to the Eigse committee who work hard throughout the year to ensure that the festival is a success.
I also enjoyed the Late Late Country show on Friday night. Nothing like music and song to take our minds away from the disturbances in the world which are growing every day.
