It was very sad to hear that Ann Carroll of Templeathea has died. Ann, originally from Knockdown, will be dearly missed by her husband Ned, sons Kieran and Declan, her grandchildren and her sisters Mary, Kathleen, Angela, Carmel and brother Joe, and all extended family. Ann was very well liked by all who knew her. She was in the same class in school as my  sister Gerardine. Both of them had a mischievous sense of humour. May she rest in peace.

It is a busy week for those who like to go to the Ploughing and of course to the Listowel Races. No doubt those who are genuine followers will fit both in at some stage. It is such a pity that the weather is not looking promising for the week. My daughter Lisa, who was setting up her stand at the Ploughing last Saturday said the place is mucky before the whole event even starts. She is in the Enterprise tent with a whole lot of other small businesses. No doubt people will enjoy both events in spite of the weather.

It was upsetting to hear on the news on Monday night all about the post-surgery complications following spinal surgery of children in Temple Street Hospital. It is frightening for anybody involved. My grand-daughter, Lucy, is one of those awaiting such an operation due to her scoliosis and spina bifida. Let us hope that lessons will be learned and that no more children will have to suffer complications. The operation itself is enough to have to endure.

Ballyhahill Rambling House is on this Wednesday night at 8pm. Great entertainment guaranteed, as usual.
