CHURCH: In my experience, most unchurched or barely churched Catholics are not opposed to Mass. Some tell me, “The Mass is good for some people, but right now I don’t see the need for it.”

That’s what I used to say about exercise: “Fine for those who like that sort of thing, but I don’t need it.” But the fact is that I needed exercise all along, and those who think they don’t need the Eucharist may discover that they have needed our Eucharistic Lord all along, too.

Others tell me that they are interested in coming back to Mass on Sunday but are afraid they would feel awkward.

Her story gives insight into early American science, women in science, and how the understanding of climate has changed. It also reveals how that understanding might have evolved differently to better deal with today’s climate problems.

“Foote went from a farmer’s daughter to one of the greats in the science of climate change,” says John Perlin, a visiting scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and author of books on solar power and other topics. Perlin is currently writing a book about Foote. His extensive archival research and a visit to the locales where she lived and worked have yielded new understanding of her environment and development. —————————–In 1859 the Irish physicist John Tyndall identified atmospheric water vapour and carbon dioxide gas, CO2, as main components in absorbing thermal radiation.

BON SECOURS: Stephen Fernane- Kerryman- Tue 5 Sep 2023

It’s the end of an era for the Bon Secours Order in Tralee after 144-years of service and care in the town.

A special Mass was celebrated at St John the Baptist’s Church on Tuesday morning in honour of Sr Siobhán Horgan, Sr Aidan O’Brien, and Sr Teresita Hoare – the last Sisters of the Order in Tralee.

Parish Priest Fr. Tadhg Fitzgerald described it as a ‘sad day’ as it marked the end of the Order’s time in Tralee. However, he said it should also be a happy occasion considering the legacy of work and care they leave behind.

WRITER A REGULAR Visitor to Knockanure

Julian of Norwich was a 14th century mystic, theologian and writer. Her revelatory visions of God’s love for all creation went against the prevailing and sometimes harsh doctrine of the times, and have inspired many since.

Claire Gilbert explores how Julian’s spirituality can help awaken and transform our ecological consciousness, showing us how to live in such a way that we cease to do harm to creation and each other.

Dr Claire Gilbert is the Director of Westminster Abbey Institute and was formerly policy advisor to the Archbishops’ Council of the Church of England in environmental issues. Her latest book is ‘I, Julian’, a fictional autobiography of Julian of Norwich.
