Jim Prendeville in the VandeLeur Gardens
Even though last Saturday started out with a bit of drizzle it brightened up enough for the Family Fun Day in Loughill to be a great success with lots of support from near and far. Much credit must be given to the Loughill park committee who put in a huge amount of voluntary work to ensure it was a good day for young and old.
Last Wednesday was promised to be a fine day and I planned a sightseeing day around Clare with our daughter Sarah who has gone back to Dubai now. It was a most pleasant day in Clare, having crossed over on a very full ferry. Sitting in the sun having a coffee at the VandeLeur gardens just before Kilrush before touring the lovely gardens was a delight. We stopped in Kilkee and enjoyed an icecream while watching a group of young lads diving into the water while others enjoyed the waves. The sea and sky were a lovely blue and helped me to believe that we might have a summer yet. Further on in Lehinch we walked the cliff by the golf club. This is a very pleasant walk along a wide tarmacadam path, suitable for wheelchairs. I have to say that Lehinch is most suitable for disabled with plenty parking, wheelchair spaces just beside the spotlessly clean public toilets which was manned, on that day, by a very friendly young lady. The wheelchair toilet was most spacious which is not always the case. So top marks to Lehinch. We then drove on to Liscannor where there is a lovely little bay. Here we had a fish and chips dinner in Vaughan’s before heading home by road. If only we had more sunny days like this! But, I’m still hoping for another bit of warmth by the end of August.
All the children are getting ready for back to school, getting new books and uniforms and even new teachers. Wishing them the very best.
The Knockdown shop is still looking very lonesome and we wait to see what the future brings. It is a great loss to the area.
