Rain Rain and More Rain

Well as the saying goes —Rain Rain go away come again another day and at this stage we won’t be sorry to see the back of July, with it being the wettest  on record. This week sees August with us and everyone asking themselves where has the time gone with schools reopening in the not too distant future. Yet again we aren’t too badly off with very high humid temperatures in so many parts of the world. Here’s to a few nice days in the month of August.

Sincere Congrats are extended to Nora and Tommy Hogan of Templeathea who have just celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary, indeed a wonderful achievement .Here’s to many more years of health and happiness and future anniversaries.

Congrats to Megan Carroll of School Road, Athea who has achieved her lifelong ambition, and is now on the Irish Tag Rugby Team wearing the number 3 Irish jersey .Here’s to many wins for the team.

The death has taken place of Josie Moore (nee Enright) formerly of Athea, whose death took place in the care of The Maria Goretti Nursing Home, Kilmallock  over the weekend. Her remains reposed at Daffys Funeral Home in Kilmallock on Monday Evening  last , where many came to offer their sympathy. Requiem mass on Tuesday was followed by burial to Ahavoher cemetry in Moyvane. Sincere sympathy to her daughters Siobhan and Mairead, sisters here in Athea, Gretta and Mary -Anne, brother Ned, relatives and friends.

May she rest in peace.

The death has also taken place of Pat O Keeffe, husband of Mina Sheehy, formerly of Templeathea who resided in Pallaskenry. Pat passed away in the care of the staff of U.H.L. Burial followed Requiem Mass in Pallaskenry at the weekend in Kilcornan. Sympathy to his wife Mina, son Vincent relatives and friends.

May the light of heaven be his.

Unfortunately outdoor Mass couldn’t be celebrated in Templeathea Cemetry last week as was the case with Holy Cross previously, however good crowds came to the church instead and it is hoped, in the not too distant future, weather will allow outdoor Masses. My sister

Patsy and myself tackled the painting of the BlessedWell Statues etc and just to thank the Man that gave us the white paint for that section of it who didn’t want to be named.

It seems by all accounts that in the next 10 years or so that most businesses will be cashless. I  noticed it myself recently passing through the Duty Free in Newark Airport. Almost every shop was self –service and pay by card having scanned your purchases. Little or no People working inside counters. I wonder what would our parents and elderly make of this. I remember my father, God rest him, he would save coins in a big jar from one year to the next and on December 8th every year it would be emptied out and counted. The total  would then be taken down to Tessie Stapletons, God be good to her too, and she would give him paper money instead which would be duly shared out between all the grandchildren for the big shopping day. What great excitement and fond memories – no plastic cards in those days and real people to serve you. Times have changed;  one asks for better or worse.?
