Sympathies to the Barrett family, originally from Turraree on the death of Jack Barrett, Glenastar. He is deeply regretted by his wife Nancy (nee Ahern), daughter Alice, sons Daniel and Mikey and extended family. May he rest in peace.

There is a Family fun Day organised in Abha Bhan Parish Park, Loughill, on Saturday August 12th.  There will be lots of novelty events plus a Food/Craft Fair. Hopefully the weather will oblige. I think there was a deluge last year

Everybody, including non sport enthusiasts, is talking about the great Limerick team who won the 5 in a row. It was a great achievement thanks to the players for their skill and strength. Long may it continue.

I include a poem this week.

A Strong Foundation

We used to enjoy our silent ways

And I had grown to understand

That though you might not speak at all

You were a contented man.

We were accustomed to the silence

So it was easier to learn

That you had lost almost all your words

That might never again return.

“Your husband has Aphasia

As a result of a dense stroke”

These were the words that haunted me

Each morning when I woke.

Two years have passed and still no words

Frustration can set in

When you want to start a discussion

But don’t know how to begin.

We never knew the value

Or the necessity of speech

Til it was taken from us

And words went out of reach

But still we enjoy the silence

Knowing we are secure.

We had built a strong foundation

We appreciate it now for sure!
