MARY MOORE: The death has taken place of Mary Moore (nee King) School Road Carrigkerry. Mary died peacefully at home on Saturday July 8, surrounded by her loving family. Reposing at Riedy’s Funeral Home, Newcastle West on Monday July 10, from 6pm to 8pm. The cortege arrived at St Mary’s Church Carrigkerry on Tuesday morning for Requiem Mass at 11.30am. It was concelebrated by Canon Tony Mullins, Fr Denis Mullane, Fr Frank O’Dea, and family members participated in the readings, prayers of the faithful, offertory, tributes. Before Mass commenced three symbols of importance to Mary’s life were taken to the altar. A microphone showing her love for entertainment, her grandsons drawing showing her devotion to her grandchildren, and her rosary beads which she used during her illness.
The first reading was from the Book of Ecclesiastes and the second reading was the second letter of St, Paul to Timothy. They were very appropriate for the life that Mary lived. Blessed with a bubbly personality she lit up a room with her presence and was always up for a song or a dance. Her final four years were challenging but she faced it bravely with great support from family and friends. Liz and Nicola read out two beautiful poems in tribute and husband Frank paid a lovely loving tribute. They met as workers in Castlemahon Poultry Products, and they travelled the World together and were blessed with their children and grandchildren which she adored.
Burial took place afterwards at Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle West. Sympathy to husband Frank, daughter Una, sons Francis and Jason, mother Liz, grandchildren Daniel, Jamie, Sophie, Hollie and Scott, daughter-in-law Grace, son-in-law Donie, brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends. A large attendance was present at both the reposing, mass and burial to show the esteem that Mary was held in. Music and hymns were performed by Maura and Donie Nolan, which were appropriate for the occasion with Isle of Somewhere especially touching.
It is always sad to see the passing of a former school friend who was one class behind me in Carrigkerry National School. Mary was a hard worker who also worked in Aughinish Alumina, Cahermoyle Nursing Home and as a bartender in the local bars. She attended many a Glensharrold Wren night and always brought a bottle. She had a generous heart and always contributed to the night and enjoyed the occasion. Mary’s presence around the school road will be sadly missed by all and especially by her family. May she Rest in enjoyment Peace.
