HURLING – WHAT A GAME

Well as I start my few bits of news this Sunday evening, I’m sure everyone will agree we have just witnessed a great day of HURLING. To say one’s Heart would be in one’s Mouth would be putting it Mildly to say the least. Thankfully Limerick came out Victorious again as Hurling enthusiasts watched all over the World cheering on their County. It’s such a fast paced game with complete dedication by the players, long hours of training, sacrifices for family life and much more and no doubt the Heat this Sunday was tremendous. And of course Kilkenny winning against Galway in the last few seconds was unreal. One never knows until the final whistle and we saw that today .

A few other congratulations away from the Hurling now. Firstly congrats are extended to Shane Mulvihill, son of Mary T. and Denny who has become engaged to Ashley Murphy of Listowel, they reside in Upper Athea and are wished all the best.

Another congrats to Sonny Sheehan and Paula Walsh on the birth of their first baby, a little boy they are calling Darragh, a first grandchild for Mossie and Jet Sheehan of Hillside Drive.

Lastly well done and Congrats to Mary O’Mahony of Coole who in her 80s, recently won best dressed lady at Tralee Track proving Age doesn’t matter.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mike Cummane and his family, Paudie, Cathal and Maireád on the passing of Marion this past week. Many came to pay their final respects to a very well liked lady at the family home on Wednesday last. Requiem Mass on Thursday in Ballyhahill was followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery here in Athea. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

It was extra sad then on Friday when news filtered through of another tragedy in Knockdown having seen and heard fire-brigade Sirens rushing through Athea we heard of the devastating news that Mullane’s Shop had burned down. Thankfully there were no injuries but Ta had only just laid his sister Marion to rest the day before. However hopefully Ita and Ta will come from this shock and I’m sure their many neighbours and friends  and loyal customers will console them. We wish them well.

This Saturday after evening Mass, the Corpus Christi procession will take place after many years of absence from the church to the Hall. Householders along the Way are invited to put out holy pictures or a little altar at their Homes. Benediction will be held at the Hall with refreshments after. All are very welcome.

Thought for the week:- You may find the Worst Enemy or the Best Friend in Yourself.
