OUT AND ABOUT

Yet again a lovely few days we have enjoyed this past week and more so this Monday where I had the privilege of spending the day in Dingle with some very Special Young People who were indeed a pleasure to be around, along with their S.N.A.s. I hadn’t been in Dingle for many years and the scenery en-route was just beautiful. Ireland on a sunny day is one of the nicest places in the World to be. As the day went on it became more packed with coaches arriving from all directions, bringing tourists from all over the world and isn’t this great to see especially for Tourist Locations who had suffered the impact of Covid on their businesses for over 2 years. Quaint little shops selling Irish gifts were in abundance as well as restaurants and hotels all doing a very busy trade. No sign of Fungi unfortunately – he may come back at some stage who knows. In all a beautiful scenic place to spend a day.

This Thursday is a very Special Day for those being confirmed here in Athea N.S. Bishop Brendan Leahy will perform the ceremony in the afternoon which  hopefully  will be a nice fine day for them all. The Mass will be at 1.30. Best wishes to all of them for the next Chapter of their Young Lives.

This weekend sees the collection being taken up for our Sacristan’s Siobhán and Teresa, and as I said before they do tremendous work day by day in and around the church making sure everything is in order, so much work is done behind the scenes. You are asked to support their collection. There is  a special envelope in your box or place your donation in your own envelope with your name on it.

The MAYO men and women in our parish were super happy with the team’s win last week, hopefully this will be their Big Year. And next weekend will be another hopeful for the Limerick Hurlers as they line out against Cork. Unfortunately our Limerick Minors who got off to a great start in front of a huge crowd in Newcastlewest last Thursday evening were beaten by a stronger Kerry team, however they held Kerry from scoring for the first 20 minutes much to the amazement of the huge crowd of supporters. Well done to the 3 Athea boys for their input  to get to this point.

A last reminder about the C.D. Available at Collins’ Shop with some lovely songs, including Fr. Tony Mullins, the proceeds of which will go to The Friends Of St. ITA’S to further improve the facilities in the hospital, they cost just 10 Euro.

Thought for the week:-

We are all travellers in the wilderness of this World ,and the best that we find in our travels is an HONEST FRIEND.
