WHAT A LOVELY DAY

Well Saturday last was a very special day for all the girls and boys of Athea N.S as they received their 1st Holy Communion  here in our church, and wasn’t it a lovely day for the special occasion. Fr. Willie Russell  celebrated the Mass assisted by Canon Tony Mullins, and the church was packed for the occasion. The school choir led by Margaret Carroll were wonderful as were all the girls and boys who played their part doing the readings, prayers of the faithful and all the other necessary things which made the day so special. The church was decorated with their beautiful pictures and paintings. The teachers and helpers, along with their parents, must be complimented in preparing them along with Fr. Willie for this much looked forward to day. Well done to all concerned.

I’m sure everyone, including myself, was shocked to read in last week’s newsletter that our excellent Undertaker Mary T. was retiring from her work after so many years. It seems a lifetime ago that I remember we used to help her grandfather Tim Kelly, or as we used to call him PAPA Kelly, do the inside Cloths in the inside of the coffins with the Tacker, down in his workshop. Mary T. not only organised the funerals to a Perfection but as someone said she was there for the families to lend them a comforting ear when they had lost a loved one, sometimes in tragic circumstances. I suppose there comes a time in one’s Life when a step-back is necessary and rightful. We wish Mary T. and her husband Denny a  Very Happy Retirement and good Health to enjoy it.

The very best of luck is wished to the Limerick Minor team who have no less than 3 players lining out on this Thursday evening in Mallow against Tipperary in the phase 1 final which hopefully they win, they would love some support I’m sure from  THE PARISH as we cheer on James Hunt, Callum Buckley and Evan Curry, the next step would be the Munster Final against Kerry or Cork.

Anyone looking for tickets for the 500 -GAA club Draw they are on sale now for 50 Euro with some great prizes over the 5 months. I have some if anyone  wants to buy one thereby helping yet again to lessen the debt on the walking track and the soon to be laid tarmac on the extended car park.

Make NO Assumptions about the latest Drug that’s destroying young peoples lives. Warn your children about FENTANYL, it Steals your Friends and Your Lives, it’s at crisis level  in Parts of the USA at the moment and no doubt has hit our shores already, turning young people into Zombies and worse taking their lives, so be-FORWARNED.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:-

WE PASS THROUGH THIS LIFE JUST ONCE-SO MAKE IT COUNT.
