U13 Division 3A Football League
Belville Gaels 4.04 Athea 1.09
We played our first game of the league on Thursday evening away to a very strong Belville Gaels Team. We started slowly with Belville Gaels scoring an early goal and a point. Following a point on the run from Tadhg Hunt the team began to find their rhythm and by halftime we were ahead 1:03 to 1:02. Belville Gaels again started the second half strongly and the teams were level 1:04 a piece 5min into the second half. Athea then took over around the middle of the field and dominated for the next 10min scoring 5 points without reply the best score a swiping move the full length of the pitch fisted over the bar by the excellent Aaron Broderick who finished the game with 5 points from play. Unfortunately in the final 5min the stronger Beville Gaels forwards took over and after scoring a goal against the run of play, collected the subsequent kick out and scored a third goal straight away. Beville Gaels confidence was now up and with time running out they scored a fourth goal to secure the victory in what was an excellent game of football that went right down to the wire.
Thanks to John O’Halloran the referee and Belville Gaels for a great game. We wish a speedy recovery to Tom Mullane and Daniel Broderick who were both out injured for the match. Athea had great performances from Daniel Hunt, Jack Leahy and Aaron Broderick.

U17 Mens
Gerald Griffins/Glin/Athea 2-09
Adare 3-08
After the Gaels 7 point win in their last game, they came out of the dressing room with a lot of confidence and they did not disappoint. With points from Jack Sexton (2), Conor Fitzgerald and Rory Cleary the Gaels went on to score four points without reply to make it 0-04 to 0-00.
That four point lead didn’t last long however as a well worked ball by the Adare forwards was put into the back of the net to bring that gap to only one point.
With Adare bringing it back to only one point but they couldn’t capitalise on that short margin as Sean McKenery and Rory Cleary scored two wonderful points for the Gaels to have a one point lead 0-06 to 1-02 going into half time
The second half got underway after words of encouragement from both sets of managers and it was the home team who got the better start as Tadgh Ahern put his side two points ahead as he struck over a point in the early moments of the second half
But unfortunately from a good passage of play Adare ended up scoring 2-05 without reply to put them 4 points up in the game with four and a half minutes left to play.
The Gaels never looked like they were ever out of this game even though they were 4 points down with not much time left to play. After a few position tactics from the home side and some beautiful footwork they brought the game into their favour after 2 goals were slotted gracefully into the net by forward Jack Sexton and a beautifully scored point by Sean McKenery to make it only a one score game with a score line of 2-08 to 2-07
In the dying minutes of the game it was heartbreak for the home side as with the last kick of the game Adare managed to sneak a goal that won them the game and as the referee blew the full time whistle Adare came out victorious with the final score Gerald Griffins/Glin/Athea 2-09 – 3-08 Adare
