Change in Mass Schedule. At a recent meeting of the Area Pastoral Council (representatives from
Listowel, Moyvane, Knockanure, Lixnaw, Iremore, Rathea, Duagh, Lyrecrompane) the provision of
Mass for the 8 communities of the region was reviewed. After exploration of possibilities, given the
decline in the number of priests (4 at the moment), it was proposed that, among other adjustments,
Moyvane-Knockanure would continue to have its vigil Mass on Saturday evenings at 7.30 and
morning Mass at 9.30 in Knockanure. Moyvane Sunday 11.00am Mass may be dropped so that the
resident priest (for now) in Moyvane could provide Mass elsewhere in the area at that time. Before
this arrangement is confirmed, your comments are welcome, preferably in writing, to Fr. Brendan
before May 1st. They will be respected and included in any ultimate outcome.

EARTH DAY 22 nd of April; I share a few ideas below to help us rethink compulsive consumerism and
its effects on the earth. Some of the ideas are directly about reducing consumption and re-using
items you already own, but many simply challenge all of us to grow in deeper communion with each
other.
So, with that in mind, here is my (by no means exhaustive) list of ideas to help you celebrate our
Earth today:
1. Start composting your food scraps
Not only does it reduce your trash, you end up with a nutrient-rich amendment for your garden.
Don’t feel like you have to splurge on a prefabricated bin, there are plenty of DIY plans online that
use items you can find around your neighborhood. Even apartment dwellers can get creative with a
worm farm. Be sure to keep a good ratio of browns:greens (carbon:nitrogen) and avoid tossing in
your dairy and meat products.
2. Eat your food
According to Feeding America, almost 40% of the food in our country is thrown away. So, before you
go out to a restaurant, check your fridge first. If your own food doesn’t look appetizing anymore,
invite friends over for a leftover night. And if you really can’t bring yourself to eat your remnants,
you can make delicious broth with past-their-prime vegetables and even freeze wilted greens for
future smoothies.

at t h e local Post Office for his pension, w a s a man Of robust health, and a stranger to Illness.
He was a young man when Daniel O'Connell, the Liberator, passed periodically from Derrynane to

previous to the erection of the Feale Bridge in 1837. His knowledge of the history of t h e White-boy
movement, in the early twenties was most interesting, as was also his recollection of West Limerick
incidents of the '48 and '67 periods.

FARMING: prospects for the Irish economy in 2023, often overlooking Irish food production.
Without sounding like a broken record, none of these agencies, as exemplified by the recent reports
from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) or the Central Bank, make any reference to
the outlook for Irish agriculture or agri-business.
Any objective assessment of Irish economy prospects must surely have something to say about a
business sector that supports 220,000 jobs (almost one job in 10 in the Irish economy – CSO).

On April 11, 1963, John XXIII issued the encyclical Pacem in Terris, a powerful call for a world in
which there were neither victims nor executioners that cemented the pontiff’s reputation as “Good
Pope John.” With the world having teetered on the brink of nuclear war during the October 1962
Cuban missile crisis, a papal appeal for “peace on earth” was well received everywhere, including the
Soviet Union — although the view in some Vatican quarters that the masters of the Kremlin took the
encyclical’s message to heart was rather naive.
What, then, did Pacem in Terris teach? And how does its analysis of world affairs look, six decades
later?

SYNOD 2021-2024 FOR A SYNODAL CHURCH: communion, participation and mission
In October 2021 the Catholic Church's synodal process on the theme of synodality began. This was
the first time that a worldwide listening process and consultation with parishes and dioceses was
attempted and many people in Ireland took part in a listening process during the early months of
2022. Did you take part? Have you been wondering what happened after that?
Much has happened since then. Your participation formed part of our national document that was
sent to the Synod office in Rome in August 2022. It also formed part of a global document called
Enlarge the Space of Your Tent, which was published last October, and then formed part of a
presentation given by the Irish delegation that travelled to Prague this February for the first ever
Continental Assembly of the Catholic Church's synodal process. Please visit
