MARY MCNAMARA: The death took place of Mary McNamara, nee Kiely, Raheen, Limerick  and formerly Glensharrold, Carrigkerry at Milford Care Centre, Limerick on Thursday, April 13. Mary lay in repose at Griffin’s Funeral Home,  John’s Gate, on Friday, April 14 from 5pm to 7pm. The Funeral cortege arrived at St. Nessan’s Church, Raheen  for Requiem Mass on Saturday at 1pm. It was concelebrated by her cousin Fr. Tom Mangan assisted by Fr. Michael Noonan, Fr. Chris O’Donnell, Fr. Richie Davern and Canon John O’Shea. Mary was laid to rest afterwards in Castlemungret Cemetery. Sympathy to her sons Conor, Tom, Liam, brothers Michael, Willie, grandchildren Jack, Anna, Amy,  Finn,  Adam, daughters -in-law Louise,  Alison,  sisters-in -law, uncles Paddy Tony, Noel, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours,  friends, former colleagues. Mary was a retired nurse and a credit to her profession, being kind and caring and looking out for others. Her family meant everything to her and they enjoyed many holiday and  sporting occasions together. She was a great Limerick hurling and Munster rugby supporter. She had great faith and was a Eucharistic Minister in Raheen and always available to help out. Mary was a real lady whose legacy will live on in those who were lucky to have known her. May she rest in Peace.

Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Paul Brouder, Glenbawn and Elaine Guiney, Brosna, County Kerry on their recent marriage.

GAELIC GAMES: St. Kieran’s were defeated by Adare  2-26 to 0-13 in round 1 of the west senior hurling league at Adare on Saturday, April 8. Adare led by 1-11 to 0-9  at half time. Team: Anthony Molyneaux, Anthony Mullins, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Aaron Heffernan, Jack Ben Harnett 0-1, Brendan McCarthy, Shay Greaney,  Cathal McEnery,  Fionn Gleeson 0-1, Cathal O’Connor, Eoin McEnery 0-2, Mossie Shine, Ian Mackessy 0-6, Donie Nolan 0-3,  Michael Murphy. The wet and windy weather caused a number of club fixtures to be postponed.

Craig MacInnes and Sean Ryan were members of the Limerick team that defeated Waterford  by 2-6 to 0-6 in the quarter final of the Munster Under 20 football championship in Ballyagran on Easter Monday, April 3. Lorcan Murphy was a member of the extended panel. John Doyle is a member of the Limerick over 40 panel who are currently training for the master’s All Ireland Football Championship. They defeated Clare recently in a challenge match. The Under 15 Hurling Féile was held  in Coolcappa on Saturday April 1 with matches against  Newcastle West and Glenquin Gaels.

SOCCER NEWS: Creeves Celtic defeated Broadford 3-2 at home in the Premier Division of the Desmond League on Sunday, April 9. Eoin McEnery 2 and Tommy Dillane scored the goals. Carrig Celtic had no fixture and no matches in the Desmond ladies league.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday, April 10. The numbers drawn were 4,11,21,23, and  there was  no  winner of the €12,300 Jackpot. Congratulations  to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each Madeline Meade, Coolcappa, Shane Meade, (Online), May Gallagher, (Online), Liam Kiely, Newcastle West (Online), Michael Liston, Glenastar, Ardagh. Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be €12,400. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Danny Sammon, Churchtown, Newcastle West who won €250, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, April 14. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloney’s, Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop, Ardagh) or from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. The station can be contacted at 069-66200 if people have news of interest to the West Limerick area.

RAMBLING HOUSE: The next  rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday April  19 at 8pm.  All musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers are most welcome to attend.  It is receiving lots of positive reviews with plenty traditional entertainment on show  and teas served.

ITA’S  RAMBLING HOUSE:  Ita McQuinn, Monagea  is holding her next monthly rambling house on Friday, April 21, at the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West at 8pm. All musicians, singers’ dancers and storytellers are most welcome to attend.

FOOD APPEAL: St. Kieran’s GAA with Ken Smollen, West Limerick food appeal, are having a non-perishable food collection this coming weekend April 22nd and 23rd. There will be collection drums for the food in Coolcappagh G.A.A grounds at the dressing room door. Another at the car park of the all-weather pitch in Ardagh and also one in the shop in Carrigkerry. Times for collection are from 10am until 4pm. Please support this worthy cause by placing non-perishable goods into the drums e.g., tins of peas, beans, sugar, tea, coffee, cereals etc. This food will be distributed free to local families who are finding life very difficult in these expensive times. Ken Smollen, West Limerick food appeal, would like to thank St. Kieran’s GAA for their help, also we would like to thank all the local shops and supermarkets for their help in having a food basket in their shops and finally a special thanks to you all who support by your kindness and generosity in donating non-perishable food items for this very worthy cause. FUNDRAISING CÉILÍ: A fundraising Céilí in aid of TLC4CF (Tipperary, Limerick, Clare for Cystic Fibrosis) will take place at Mungret St. Pauls GAA Clubhouse (Eircode V94 AO 62) on Friday, April 21, from 9pm to midnight. Admission is €10, and a raffle will be held for numerous spot prizes. The music  is by Ui Bhriain from Kenmare, teas served, and all are welcome. By donating to TLC4CF you can make a difference to the quality of life for people with Cystic Fibrosis.TCL4CF aims to develop and improve services and facilities for people with CF in the mid West region of Ireland. It is an ideal venue for Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and surrounding areas to attend. A very large crowd attended  when Ui Bhriain played at the  fundraiser on January 6 and a great night’s dancing took place.

SCHOOL ADMISSION: Carrigkerry National School  will commence accepting applications for Admission to the 2023/24 school year on Monday, April 24. CLUB DRAW: The Limerick GAA Club draw for 2023 is now open for membership. The Saint Kieran’s club are promoting it and the first draw will be held on Saturday, April 29. The entry fee for the ten draws is €100, and €21,000 will be given out in prize money each month. The first prize is €10,000, 2nd prize €3,000, 3rd prize €2,000, 4th prize €1,000, 5th prize is an exclusive star prize, and 4  prizes of €500, four prizes €250, and 17 prizes of €100. The draw is a month late commencing this year and two draws will be held in December. To join contact the local St. Kieran’s club members in person, or online through the Club force App with direct options available. The club will receive 50% of all membership received which is vital for the running of it over the year.

PIETA HOUSE: The Darkness into Light 5k walk/run in aid of Pieta House will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 4-15am from the Desmond Complex, Gortboy, Newcastle West. The walk will continue along the N21 towards Lacey’s Cross, turning left towards Gortboy and back to the Desmond Complex.

OLD MILL NEWS: The Old Mill Ladies Gaelic football club are holding their annual family fundraising walk on Sunday, May 7 at 10am from the Barnagh Greenway Hub. It is open to all ages of people from the wider community. The club are holding are holding a fundraising coffee/tea morning in Ardagh Hall on Friday, June 2 from 9am to 1pm and all are welcome to attend.

SENSORY GARDEN: Carrigkerry Playground and Sensory Garden Committee are holding a fund raising Bingo in Ardagh Community Centre on Sunday, May 7 at 3pm. €2,000 in prize money with many more prizes on the evening. A double book and 2 sheets  cost €20, single book and 1 sheet €15, half book €5, extra sheets €2 each. Prizes €50 per line, €1,000 per full house,  sheet €100 for line, and €400 for house. Teas, Coffees and the hall shop will be open.  All support for this exciting development will be greatly  appreciated.
