EILEEN GILTINANE: The death has taken place of Eileen Giltinane, (nee Donovan) Cappagh, Askeaton and Glensharrold, Carrigkerry, peacefully at UHL Limerick on Monday, March 27. Predeceased by her parents  Jack and Mary Donovan. Reposing at St. James Church, Cappagh on Wednesday, March 29 from 6 to 8pm. Fr. Tim Curtin concelebrated her Requiem Mass on Thursday at 12 noon followed by burial in Cappagh Cemetery. Sympathy to her husband Seamus, daughter Elaine, son Seamus, grandchildren  sister Mary Scanlon, Kilcolman, nephews, niece, son in law John, daughter in law Rosaleen, brothers in law, sisters in law, relations, neighbours and many friends. May she rest in Peace.

SYMPATHY: We extend sympathy to Brendan Duggan and family school road, Ardagh on the death of his brother Patsy Duggan, late of Sugarhill and Birmingham where he passed on. His Requiem Mass was celebrated in Templeglantine Church on Tuesday, March 21, followed by burial of ashes in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle West. Sympathy also to the extended Duggan family members. May he rest in Peace.

EASTER CEREMONIES:  The Holy week ceremonies in Ardagh/Carrigkerry churches are: Holy Thursday, April 6 Mass in Ardagh at 7.30pm. Good Friday, the Lord’s Passion in Carrigkerry at 3pm. Stations of the Cross in Carrigkerry at 6pm and in Ardagh at 7.30pm. Holy Saturday  Mass in Ardagh at 9pm. Easter Sunday Mass in Carrigkerry at 11am.

GAELIC GAMES: Saint Kieran’s club have been allocated  the greyhound, As I Say, in the Con and Anne Kirby Memorial  which is currently being run off at Limerick Greyhound Track.

SOCCER NEWS: In the Premier Division of the Desmond League Creeves Celtic drew 0-0 away to Abbeyfeale United on Sunday, March 26. Carrig Celtic lost 6-1 away to Feenagh in the Third Division. In Division 1 of the Desmond Ladies League Kilcolman Rovers defeated Creeves Celtic 5-1 away  with goals from Gillian Musgrave 2, Patrice Dillane, Aishling Kelly and Lola Kiely. Kilcolman Rovers won all their 12 matches in the league and will play in the Premier Division next season. After the match their Captain Erin Hennessy received the trophy from  Brigid Daly of the Desmond League.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Limerick lost to Antrim by 3-16 to 1-11 in the  Ladies National Football League  Division 4 semi-final at Whitehall on Sunday March 26. The Old Mill club were represented by Sophie Hennessy, Captain Róisín Ambrose 0-1, Iris Kennelly and Alva Quaid.

SCOR WINNER: Congratulations to Paddy Mullane from our neighbouring club Gerald Griffin’s  GAA who won the County final of Scór na nÓg in solo singing at Askeaton Community Hall on Saturday, March 25.  Paddy is a great grandson of the late Con Greaney and he is also a musician who entertains at the local Rambling House sessions. Best of luck to Paddy in the Munster semi-final in Pallasgreen on Sunday, April 2.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday, March 27. The numbers drawn were 3,7,17,20, and  there was  no  winner of the €12,100 Jackpot. Congratulations  to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each:  Hazel Stack and Killian, Kilcolman, c/o Denis Greaney, Bernie O’Connell, Ardagh (Online), Diarmuid Mulcahy, Coolcappa (Online), Julia Greaney, Ardagh, Michelle and Annie, c/o Josie. Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be €12,200. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Maureen Flavin, Carrigkerry who won €300, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, March 31. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloney’s Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. The station can be contacted at 069-66200 if people have news of interest to the West Limerick area.

HERITAGE MEETING: St. Kieran’s Heritage Association  will hold their next meeting in Ardagh community Hall on Wednesday, April 5, at 8pm and all are welcome new and returning members. A speedy recovery to Mike Kennedy a member of the heritage walking group.

SKILLS MORNING:  Kilcolman Rovers are running a girls only soccer skills morning in Ardagh Astro Pitch on Thursday, April 6 from 10am to 1pm. This is for girls aged 5 to 11 (born 2011 to 2017). It is suitable for beginners, but all ability levels are welcome.  Learn the basics of soccer  and soccer skills in a fun environment. CLEAN UP: Team Limerick Clean-Up (TLC) is set to take place across Limerick city and County on Good Friday, April 7. The registration is open for the 8th edition of the largest one day clean up in Ireland. All groups or individuals are urged to sign up on www. teamlimerickcleanup.ie and help make this year the best ever. The countryside is full of discarded rubbish and a disgrace for visitors or tourists to see. Organised clean ups are being held in Ardagh and Coolcappa villages. Meet at Ardagh Community Centre at 9.30pm, and contact Rose on 085 1688307, or Brenda on 086 8772660 for the Coolcappa start time.

FILM CLUB: Newcastle West Film Club present ”Aftersun” starring Paul Mescal in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West on Good Friday, April 7 at 8pm. Admission is €8 and refreshments are available and all are welcome.

ARDAGH BINGO: A fundraising Bingo night will be held in Ardagh Community Hall on Wednesday, April 12, at 8pm sharp. On offer will be €2,000 in prize money and a raffle will be held with lots of prizes to be won. They are seeking support from all surrounding areas and spot prizes will be gratefully appreciated.

SET CÉILÍ: A  Céilí will be held in the hall Milford on Saturday, April 15, from 9.30pm. It is a very popular venue for West Limerick dancers and a warm welcome awaits all. Music by the Shandrum Céilí Band and tea and treats served. Admission is €10.

RAMBLING HOUSE: The next  rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday, April  19, at 8pm.  All musicians, singers dancers and storytellers are most welcome to attend.  It is receiving lots of positive reviews with plenty traditional entertainment on show and teas served.

ITA’S  RAMBLING HOUSE:  Ita McQuinn, Monagea  is holding her next monthly rambling house on Friday, April 21 at the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West at 8pm. All musicians, singers dancers and storytellers are most welcome to attend.

FUNDRAISING CÉILÍ: A fundraising Céilí in aid of TLC4CF (Tipperary, Limerick, Clare for Cystic Fibrosis) will take place at Mungret St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse (Eircode V94 AO 62) on Friday, April 21 from 9pm to midnight. Admission is €10 and a raffle will be held for numerous spot prizes. The music  is by Ui Bhriain from Kenmare, tea’s served and all are welcome. By donating to TLC4CF you can make a difference to the quality of life for people with Cystic Fibrosis. TCL4CF aims to develop and improve services and facilities for people with CF in the mid-West region of Ireland.  It is an ideal venue for Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and surrounding areas to attend. A very large crowd attended  when they played at the  fundraiser on January 6 and a great night’s dancing took place.
