The Tragedies and Sad Aftermath of Knocknagoshel Mine Explosion. Posted on March 11th, 2023

Guest speaker and historian, Owen O’Shea delivering the oration at Talbot’s Bridge for the Knocknagoshel Civil War Mine Explosion Ceremony—————————————-

I have visited my local primary school on two occasions to speak about the events of the War of Independence and will soon do so in respect of the Civil War. I found that young boys and girls were so engaged with the stories of the conflict in their locality involved people from their locality. Let’s now encourage our young people through the teaching of history in our schools, to embrace this material and this subject so that they might develop a better understanding of the Civil War and in turn become the researchers of the future, who might cast new lights on this tumultuous period in our collective history.

TALL Man; The tragic tale of Charles Byrne started in 1761. He was born to a poor family, and grew, and grew, and grew and grew — until he reached the astonishing height of about 7 feet 7 inches.

“And this is at a time when the national height average, of course, was much lower than it is now,” says Thomas Muinzer, a legal scholar at the University of Stirling in Scotland.

Germany; Eighty years ago, on February 18, 1943, Hans Scholl and his sister Sophie were caught distributing anti-Nazi leaflets in Munich University. Five days later they were tried and executed for high treason on Hitler’s direct orders. The Scholls belonged to a group of students who, using the nom de guerre of the White Rose, spoke out against National Socialism and circulated thousands of leaflets telling Germans of their moral duty to resist Hitler and his “atheistic war machine”. They also condemned the persecution of Jews in the year when Hitler began to implement the Final Solution – and were among the few to speak publicly of the Holocaust while it was taking place.

SOLAR: We’re showing dual benefits. On one hand, you have food production for farmers, and on the other hand, we’ve shown improved longevity and improved conversion efficiency for solar developers.”  The authors state that understanding this mutually beneficial concept comes at a critical time for agricultural production, as global food demands are expected to increase by 50% by 2050, to feed an anticipated 10 billion people, according to the World Resources Institute. At the same time, it is imperative to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy to mitigate the impact of climate change, the university researchers indicated.

Green Power; Range Therapy was founded by Barry McMahon and Eamon Stack, a pair of engineers with years of experience between them.

The idea underpinning the firm – which is not a commercial entity, Stack explained – began more than 15 years ago, when they began equipping older electric motorbikes with newer batteries.

“Over time, we started to do the same thing with cars,” Stack told the Business Post. “We started working with a business in the Netherlands to upgrade the battery packs of older Nissan Leaf cars in Ireland.”

The next step came when Stack and McMahon realised that they could expand the ambition of their product because of the number of second-hand batteries in Ireland.

Banks;

Investors looking to grow their hard-earned money are facing increasingly volatile markets in 2023.

As stocks continue to tumble amid fears about banks many are worried about their money.

But financial expert Lynnette Khalfani-Cox has some tips on how to invest and keep your money safe.

“Take the time to educate before you allocate and you know, make sure that you do your homework,” Khalfani-Cox said.

Investors should do their own research before investing in any market.

Once you understand the risks, figure out how much you can invest, especially amid soaring inflation.

You don’t have to put a whole lot of money into an investment.

“Small amounts of money count too, when it comes to investing,” Khalfani-Cox said. “So often people fail to even begin because they say, well I don’t have $5,000 to start or I don’t have a big lump sum of money to put into the markets.”

It’s important to diversify your investments and avoid an over-concentration in one area, according to Khalfani-Cox.
