MONTH’S MIND: The months mind mass for the late Maureen Neary, Reens,  Ardagh  will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Carrigkerry on Saturday, March 4, at 11am.

PASTORAL UNIT 13: The following mass schedule changes are effective since Monday, February 27 in the parishes of pastoral unit 13: Weekend masses:  Saturday: Foynes 6pm, Coolcappa 7.30pm, Sunday: Ballyhahill 9-30am,  Glin 11am. Weekday masses: Monday Ballyhahill 9-30am, Tuesday 9-30am, Thursday Coolcappa  9-30am, Friday Glin 10am, Kilcolman 7.30pm.

GAELIC GAMES: The St. Kieran’s  club membership rates for 2023 are: Limerick Development Draw only €100, Senior adult player €55, plus Draw €145, Family membership ( includes 1 parent/guardian and all children under 18) €75,  plus Draw €165, Adult social non playing €35, plus Draw €125, Under 21/ Student membership €35, Single juvenile membership €35, Camogie €35. Membership is now open and numerous options are available.

Congratulations to club player John Doyle who has been selected on the Limerick football panel for this year’s master’s Football Championship. St Kieran’s GAA club are holding a bucket collection in aid of the new pitch development at Ardagh, in the Newcastle West town area on Saturday, March 18 from 9am to 5pm. The club are seeking volunteers to assist in the collection by picking a time slot that suits them. Contact club members if available to help out.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Old Mill players Roísín Ambrose (Captain) 0-1, Iris Kennelly 2-2 and Sophie Hennessy were members of the Limerick team that drew with Leitrim 4-9 to 1-18 in Round 3 Division 4 of the National Ladies Football League played in Sean Finn Park Rathkeale  on Sunday February 19.  Congratulations to Iris Kennelly  who recently  celebrated  her 21st birthday. Alva Quaid was in the panel. Limerick play Derry away in their final match for a place in the knockout stages. Meabh Kelly and Paula Ahern were members of the Limerick team that  drew with Waterford 2-10 to 1-13 in the Munster  Minor football championship at Kilbreedy on Saturday February 18.

SOCCER NEWS: In the Premier division of the Desmond League on Sunday, February 19, Creeves Celtic drew 1-1 away to Broadford United with Eoin McEnery scoring their goal. Carrig Celtic had no match. In division 1of the Desmond Ladies League Creeves Celtic defeated Dromore United 2-0 away with goals from Angela Sheehan and Rachel Naughton. Kilcolman Rovers match was called off.

REVENUE ANNIVERSARY: The Revenue Commissioners in the Irish Free State  was created 100 years ago on February 21, 1923. The organisation is responsible for customs, excise, taxation and other related matters.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday, February 13. The numbers drawn were 1,3,9,21, and  there was  no  winner of the €11,600 Jackpot. Congratulations  to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each: Marie O’Donnell Neary, (Online), Tom Noonan, Commons, Ardagh, Con and Joe, c/o Moore’s Bar, Lucy Madigan, Newcastle West (Online), Sinead O’Sullivan, Coolcappa, (Online). Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be €11,700. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

RADIO DRAW:  Congratulations to Con Cremin, Tullylease  who won €340, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, February 24. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys,  Carrigkerry and Denis Greaney’s Shop, Ardagh) or from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. The station can be contacted at 069-66200 if people have news of interest to the West Limerick area.

HERITAGE NEWS: St. Kieran’s Heritage Association  annual general meeting will be held in the community Hall, Ardagh on Wednesday, March 1, at 8pm. A review of activities since the previous AGM in 2020 (before the arrival of Covid) will be held  and  the election of new officers and committee will take place. People who may be interested in any of the  above positions are asked to forward their names to the secretary  in advance of the meeting. All are welcome to the AGM including returning and new members who would like to get involved in the forthcoming activities.

STATIONS: The Stations of the Cross will be held each Sunday during Lent at Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle West at 2.30pm and all are welcome.

EXERCISE CLASS: Cardio and Core classes will be held at Ardagh Community Centre each Thursday from 7pm for five weeks. The price is €50 (€10 per class). The description:  Upbeat class with a mixture  of cardio and Pilates exercise to get  you sweaty  and toned at the same time.

CONCERT:  A concert featuring the Carrigkerry Wren Group will be held in the Community Hall, Ardagh at 8pm on Friday, March 3. The line up also includes other local artists to be announced. A raffle with a wide variety of prizes will be held. The door admission is €10 with underage concession. This fundraiser is in aid of the St. Kieran’s new field development fund. FILM CLUB: Newcastle West Film Club present ”Official Competition” in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday, March 3, at 8pm. Admission is €8 and refreshments are available and all are welcome.

SINGING CLUB: West Limerick Singing Club will hold their next singing session on Friday, March 3, at 9pm in the Ramble Inn, Abbeyfeale. All entertainers are welcome.

DRAMA DATE: Raheenagh Community Centre is the venue for Looking for Love and  Wedding Night Blues at 8pm on Saturday, March 4. The Spike Players Knocknagoshel present the two wacky one act plays by Jimmy Keary which is directed by Pádraig Dennehy in conjunction with KETB. CAMOGIE NEWS: St. Kieran’s camogie club will resume training for all age groups from Under 6 to Under 12 on Sunday, March 5, at 10.30am in Ardagh Astro  pitch. A huge congratulations to Chloe O’Connor who  has made the Eithne Neville panel for the primary schools competition.  This is a massive achievement for Chloe and  great news for the St. Kieran’s fledgling  camogie Club. Well done Chloe and best of luck in the competition.

WOMENS DAY: International Women’s Day takes place this year on Wednesday  March 8. A noon walk will be held in Rathkeale from the square to the hotel, followed by refreshments at 1pm, a guest speaker and music. Women are invited to wear purple to show their support.

VICTORY SOCIAL: St. Kieran’s victory social will be held in the Longcourt Hotel on Saturday, March 11. The county junior hurling winning players will receive their medals during the night. It commences with a four-course meal  at 7.15. Music by Heart and Soul followed by DJ Sean Carrig. The tickets cost €50 and a good night is anticipated. Tickets can be got from Chris Madigan, John Lynch, David Woulfe, and Ivan Neary.

SET CÉILÍ: A  Céilí will be held in the hall Milford on Saturday, February 11, from 9.30pm. It is a very popular venue for West Limerick dancers and a warm welcome awaits all. Music by Micheál Sexton and tea and treats served. Admission is €10.

RAMBLING HOUSE: The next  rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday, March  15 at 8pm.  All musicians, singers’ dancers and storytellers are most welcome to attend.  It is receiving lots of positive reviews with plenty traditional entertainment and teas served.
