Billy was a heavy metal rocker fanatic all his life. Always bestowing his love of rock (heavy rock) to both family and friends. Billy was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in October 2021 and whilst he faced this disease with tremendous courage and strength, he passed away on February 17th 2022. He spent a time within the Palliative Care Unit in UHK where the care, support and treatment were out of this world. He received the best care from the best team. His family will be forever grateful to this incredible team for what they did for Billy. This event is a fitting tribute to Billy and supports an amazing cause.
Unfortunately so many have been touched by this awful disease and this facility in Tralee, like so many more around the country, has offered patients superior patient care always. All proceeds from this rock night go towards the Palliative Unit, UHK. We appreciate your support!

The Sisters were providing food, shelter and education to the students up until the military coup 2020 when all schools were shut. CHURCH: Top 100 Iconic Buildings, Corpus Christi Knockanure was blessed in 1964. It was regarded as a break with traditional architecture, pioneered by Michael Scott and Ronald Tallon (architects). The Church with its podium-like entrance relishes open space, has a flat roof with a series of T beams above the transparent glass front wall, providing abundant light to the interior. The concrete paving of the podium is carried into the church while the entrance is screened by a freestanding box-like structure containing two confessionals, clad in eight panels of teak (Last Supper by Oisin Kelly). The church also has a carved Madonna and child (Imogen Stuart) and Stations of the Cross (wall hangings by Leslie Mac Weeney). RENT Scam; To avoid falling victim to such a scam, Garda Finnerty advises students and other renters: Ideally only do business with established bon-fide rental agencies. Always meet a prospective landlord in the accommodation to be rented. Ask for identification, a driver’s licence or photo identification of landlord or letting agent etc. (Take a photo of the document on your phone).

” HOME RULE” IN CASTLEISLAND.
From time to time during Mr. DEASE’S canvass in Kerry, false reports have appeared in some papers respecting it; but, knowing how false these reports were, we contented ourselves with a simple contradiction, as we knew on authority, that in Killarney, Killorglin, and Listowel where all the voters were canvassed he received but fifteen refusals out of about 100 persons canvassed-A few were neutral or undecided how they would vote, but the immense majority were in favour of Mr. DEASE Such being the facts we did not think it worth while going minutely into details. The circumstances, however, connected with Mr. Dease’s attempt to canvass Castleisland compel as to allude to it, as it is right the thinking portion of the public should be made aware of the fruits produced by the Home Rule agitation now being forced on this hitherto peaceable and orderly county-Sorrow, shame, and indignation must be the feelings of every right-thinking Kerry man, be he Protestant or Catholic, layman, or cleric, as he reads the details of a scene, which, though congnial enough with the Communists of Paris in its worst throes, was, we are happy to say, up to this, foreign to the feelings of our countrymen
The deep seated feeling of respect for their religion and its ministers was so implanted in the hearts of our people that party or political passions never seemed to influence this holy sentiment. It was the one bright spot conspicuous in the fierce and augury fends of race and creed, which, unhappily, raged in poor distracted Ireland. Now, however, this feeling of veneration for religion is fast giving way to the teachings of Communist’s, Socialists, and Fenians, who, under the assumed guise of patriotism, are sapping and destroying those sentiments in our people, which were hitherto to us a source of pride and boast. It used to be said it was easy to rouse an excitable race like ours to a great pitch, but the strong sentiment of veneration for religion could not be obliterated from their hearts. Alas! to the disgrace of Kerry, Castleisland has shown how our people are falling away under the evil influences at work upon them. The following is a short narrative of what occurred on the occasion to which we allude : —
On Friday last Mr. DEASE, accompanied by Mr. DANIEL JAMES O’CONNELL , proceeded from Killarney for the purpose of canvassing Castleisland, and, having called on the Venerable Archdeacon O’CONNELL, they with him proceeded on the canvas. They were preceded on their journey from Killarney by one of Mr. Blennerhasset’s spouting agents, a Mr. O’NEILL, from Cork, who, we believe, is a cooper by trade, but who we know has been, before now, an active Fenian, presiding at amnesty meetings, and there preaching Communistic doctrines, pure and simple, such as “that there should be no more rich” and “no more poor,” “no more landlords,” ” that property should be equally divided” and such like poisonous teachings. This Mr. O’NEILL, or as he is sometimes styled, ” General O’NEILL ,” got together some of the lowest rabble of Castleisland, and by holding forth in his usual style, had so wrought on the passion of these wretches, that they lost respect for every thing, human or divine, which this man held up to obloquy.— The result of this organisation was, that as soon as Mr. Dease, his friends, and the respected Parish Priest, commenced their canvass, they were furiously set upon by this mob, many of whom were strangers. These rowdies, under the guidance and at the instigation of O’NEILL , commenced by openly threatening the few voters who were being canvassed, and finding their threats were not producing the desired effect, violently assaulted Mr. DEASE, his friends, and the Parish Priest. Archdeacon O’CONNELL was several times struck and pelted by these so-called Catholics, and the canvass of the “Free and independent electors had to be abandoned.
During this disgraceful scene, it was observed whenever the brutal crowd appeared to flag In their -frenzy O’NEILL again and again excited them to renewed insults and violence. He adopted the ” don’t nail his ears to the pump” style, by crying, ” surely you would not pelt them with dead cats or rats, if you had them Another fact is also worthy of note—when Mr. DEASE , his friends, and the Archdeacon had at length, beaten, braised, and covered with dirt, reached the Parish Priest’s house by a circuitous route, and all appeared to be over O’NEILL rushed forward, and with a mock air of protection raised his hands over Mr. Dease’s head when a regular volley of missiles immediately followed.
This is a strange story to be told of Kerry. All the good feelings which existed between the landlords and tenants, and for which Kerry was so remarkable, where in consequence, agrarian crime was unknown, are now sought to be severed. No wonder Mr. Blennerhassett’s gutter agents should pander to the worst passions of the mob, when that gentleman himself, in a speech delivered at Killarney. Stigmatised the landlord’s of this county as ” Tyrants and ruffians In our humble judgment a very grave responsibility rests on this young gentleman.

But the Guardians of the Poplar Union, London, certainly advertised not long ago that they were prepared to receive applications for the appointment of a male lunatic at the Union Workhouse, Poplar; salary, £26 per annum with residence, etc., etc.” .With, residence is good.

Having read David Quinn’s column on Bishop Eamon Casey (Irish Independent, September 1) I would like to tell you about how the man saved my life. When I was just past my second birthday in 1974 I became a missing person. I had being living in Listowel with my parents, three sisters and two brothers. We had all gone to camp, to our cousins for a visit (on the Dingle/Castlemaine road). I wandered off from my older brother and sister as we were playing in the sand near a building site for a new house. My brothers and sisters did not realise for some time that I had gone missing. But when they did a local search party was organized. Lots of local people joined the search many searching in dykes streams and rivers along the mountain side. Local civil defence teams came by to join the search after I had been missing for several hours. It was I guess by chance that Bishop Casey, who we believe to have been coming back from Inch strand, stopped his car and got out to see what the commotion was. He stayed with my parents all that night praying and comforting my mother who was naturally very upset. In the morning he had an Air Corp helicopter come all the way down from Dublin to join in the search. It was the helicopter, flying low along the mountainside that spotted a group of cows in a circle at a corner of a field. When the helicopter approached the cows ran away and the crew saw me huddled up in a foetal position on the damp grass. I was lucky in that I only developed a slight cold and next morning in Saint Catherine’s hospital in Tralee I was said to have a healthy appetite while eating my breakfast. I maintain that without this man’s help I would have not been found and may have died of exposure or worse. His prayers may have sheltered me with the cows’ breath keeping my warm as they huddled in a circle around me. We all make mistakes. It is common to say when a mistake is made “Don’t worry about it, it could happen to a bishop”. Did he do anything worse than the priest who molested the altar boy? I think not. I don’t even think he comes close to that. And yet he admitted his wrongdoing and is an exile. Let us not forget the great things this man did while he was Bishop.
